8th Ed. Slaan. I can't decide gaaaaaaah!

I have 400 points to play with do I:

1) Take him with 2 disciplines Focus of Mastery and Rumination, with cupped hands of the old ones (put a DS scroll with a skink priest) or

2) Take him with 3 Disciplines Foucus of Mastery Rumination and Becalming Cogitation (shut down enemy wizards) and a DS scroll (leave out the skink priest)

The DS scroll is to guard against stupidly OP spells wrecking the game (like the dreaded 13th). I am nervous about not having cupped hands if someone has the smarts to dispel throne of vines. The conundrum is that I feel the need to be able to shut down skaven and chaos magic.

Your text suggests you are taking life, is this correct?
Is the Slann solo or in TG?

a) If the opponent throws 6 dice at this spell and gets double 6 you wont be able to stop it with the DS, it means you are relying on being inside 24 inches of the caster for Becalming to kick in
b) If you are worried about the 13th, Skrox units are immune to such horrors

skrox may be immune but the Grey Seer could do alot of damage before they got to him, and he doesn't have to cast it at the skrox , I would have to give up some of my skinks to get skrox and I honestly don't like the unit and obviously dont know how to use them within a solid strategy.

The Slaan is life and with 20 TG. My list is in the army list section.

I just want this to work out. I know the rolls are what they are but I have been playing LM for a bit now and I can see this list I have made being a faceroll, which means I win and get some cred. Don't want to loose.

A lot of this comes to to personal preferences and the local metagame. I.e. no absolute answer.

The upside of this is that the best way to resolve it is TO PLAY MORE GAMES. But you need to do this in a structured way with the cooperation of at least one friend who plays with a lesser race. Play with both armies against the same opponent with the same list. SWAP ARMIES with your opponent and play against both options. MAKE NOTES during and after all these test games.

At the end of this you should be in a position to decide which option you want to play with based on how much you preferred playing with each or how dangerous you found playing against each.

This also shows you that you normally learn more about an army playing against it than you do playing with it!.
