what units can he join, what units cant he join
does het look sir roll when within 3 inch of some units?

As stated, he is regular infantry. He can join: Saurus, TG, and Skinks. I beilieve our book specifically states he cannot join skrox units. He does get a LOS (2+ while in the units above), If he is within 3 inches, he gets the 4+ look out sir (that one he could get from a skrox unit).

He is susceptable to killing blow. He can join skirmishing units too. It should also be noted that you cannot take the Transformation of Kadon spell.

He can in fact join most units but will only get look out sir if in infantry.
So he can join skinks (skirmishing and krox free ranked), saurus, temple guard, cold one cav and kroxigor (special), all the other units are unjoinable due to something (being monsters, having the monster and handlers rule, being swarms, flying or unit type unique).

Yes. The advantage of joining a unit other then infantry is that he can't be targeted individually. Now joining Slann to Cold Ones I don't think would be a good idea... but hiding a Scar Vet Cowboy in a unit of Saurus until he's ready to charge out would be an option, as he couldn't be picked off by magic missiles.
