8th Ed. Smoke and Mirrors & Leaving Combat

Couldn't earthblood affect everything? Th unit gets regeneration, the wizard leaves and is replaced by a friendly character ( who gets regeneration as he is joining a unit with it) but the spell affect would move with the wizard and so the new unit should get it as well? Or am I just getting very confused?:-S
