I guess it depends when the movie is set. Obi-Wan before EP1 (as a young Padawan, maybe in some review scenes) might be someone else. Otherwise Ewan would be perfect. Obi-Wan is my favourite character in all of Star Wars and I love how both Sir Alec and Ewan played him. The Clone Wars show also gave him a lot of nice depth.
The more I see from the new Lando the more I think the actor fits pretty well. I am not that convinced of the new Han, but I actually have good hope that it will turn out to be like with the new Kirk and Spock, which I ended up liking despite being biased because for me it was Kirk=Shatner and Spock=Nimoy for all those years. Pine and Quinto are allright IMO.
Yea, it's always a bit of a tough sell when it comes to beloved characters. As you state though, it has been successfully done in the past, so there is no reason it can't be done again. Han is a tough one because Harrison Ford's portrayal of him was soooooo good! Fingers crossed!
Maybe his Scruffy look is directly tied to the Millennium Falcon... so since the Falcon looks very unscruffy in the movie, so does he. Scruffiness takes years to develop and master!
I thought Solo would be taking place when Han was about Luke’s age, i.e. his 20s, so I think the new actor looks quite good as a Han 20 years younger than Harrison Ford’s version. Also I was hoping it would be closer to the Episode III side rather than the Episode IV side because if Han is around Luke’s age it will be around 10 years before Episode IV, when there are 19 years between Episodes III and IV, so it would be closer to III, but it looks as though we’ve got Stormtroopers again rather than Clone Troopers and TIEs rather than V-Wings. I’m also hoping it will be before Rogue One too and not at around the same time, so I’m hoping that they won’t end up just moseying into Mos Eisley Cantina at the end to meet Luke and old Obi-Wan, so that it isn’t just all about being another set of prequels to Episode IV. The new Lando looks very much like Billy Dee Williams, especially when he does the cheeky grin in the trailer. I think it’ll be good - it’ll be less ‘good guys vs bad guys’ and more ‘different shades of grey’ because the Scum and Villainy of the Star Wars galaxy take centre stage, and it looks as though there will be some Necromunda style gang warfare too (Solo’s gang vs a gang even more villainous than they are).
