Blog Spess' Station -- Custom Dread Saurian pt 1

Dread Saurian pt 1

The dread saurian! This update is a small one, and wanted to ask for some feedback on a converted dread saurian. When looking at Seraphon ornaments, we have the traditional jungle-esq styling, but there's also a decent variety of bone! Lord Kroak and his mummified self, the temple guard and their bone helmets, and the above skink priest with a skull helmet of their own.

Why not extend this to the largest monster we have available? I chose not to go with the standard FW model, and wanted to take a stab at kitbashing from an existing model. I want to say the base for this guy is a Papo dinosaur -- would need to double check their range to confirm. Anyway, I grabbed a large skull fish tank ornament and slapped it on.

Needless to say this is a ROUGH WIP. Just wanted to get an idea in place first. The entire model is being held together with poster putty :p There are a few plans to get jewelry chains and help rope these pieces to the dino itself and a few misc bits that haven't been placed, but I couldn't help myself and wanted to share the initial stages of this project. Is the intent to create an enormous Undead Monster?

Or, is this fellow wearing armour that largely consists of the bones and skull plates of yet bigger creatures?

Those tiny forelimbs. Any thought of kitbashing them into something larger?

I'm going for the large plates of bone armor here. Maybe some chains to help tie the pieces down will help bring the idea together a bit more. What do you think?

How'd you get that many dark elf cold ones?

Ebay my friend! Found them mostly in sets of 5, usually prepainted (cheaper that way). Stripped with some degreaser and they were ready to convert!

Your using the same base model as me, I'm not 100% happy with how mine has turned out.

Interested in how this develops.

I spy bits of a Playmobil dinosaur skeleton there!

Good eye! I'm not sure if I'll actually use all of the pieces, but it's been a great toy to flesh out some ideas. I'm thinking of keeping the ribcage as armor for the legs, but might end up going a different direction with the tail/arm armor.

I thought it turned out well... what would you have done differently?

The armour looks out of place, I might redo it at some stage.

He looks good so far, I am curious how you plan to paint him though. The giant holes in his side-bone-armor do look a tad clunky... almost orkish.
