Blog Spess' Station -- Custom Dread Saurian pt 1

Going off that then is the Sunblood better, worse, equal to your commissioned pieces?

Objectively, I'd have to say it's better. Great conversion work + you've put more colors and layers onto the mini. More shading, higher attention to detail -- you've definitely surpassed a level 5 paintjob. I mean just looking at the skin alone, IMO you can see more depth in your mini. Worry not @Crowsfoot, you could make some decent bucks if you decide to start commissioning pieces!

Old Blood on Carnosaur

So admittedly I'm not a huge fan of painting and much prefer the assembly process. That being said it was pretty cool building and painting the first monster of the army. Can't say another will be coming soon, but there's a Stegadon in the midst of magnetization. Anyway, always open to constructive criticism!

Yeah looks good!
My only point of critique would be that the mount and the rider look a bit similar color-wise. But thats just my personal taste since I always try to get a lot of color contrast into my models. The blue Carno looks awesome.

Nice! What are those cavalry mounts? Dark Elves cavalry? They look thinner and look less dumb than the lizard mounts. :)

Hahaha... definitely!

I'm not completely a fan of the way you did the chair for the carno. gold should have a brown undercoat, with a basecoat drybrush of bronze then a light layer of gold followed by a sepia wash.

other than that I really like him!

@Lord-Marcus thanks for the tip here man, I actually really struggled trying to get the gold onto the throne. I started with a silver basecoat, and then added three or four layers of gold on top of it and finished with a sepia wash. I like the shine it gives, but it still feels patchy overall. Next time I'll definitely start with a brown and see how it plays out.

@Aginor also appreciate the feedback. Maybe a purple or white rider would have stuck out more! Will keep in mind for future minis.

Also @LeanderAT, @NIGHTBRINGER has it right -- I had to dump those lustrian calvary for the dark elf mounts!

Overall thanks for the feedback guys, really appreciate it!

what paints are you using?

The silver was GW's leadbelcher, then GW's Auric Armor Gold on top of that, and gryphonne sepia to finish. Tbh the gold felt pretty runny and never 'stuck' like I expected.

gw metallics, especially gold, do that.

switch to the following:

Vallejo paints:

game color 72045 charred brown
game color 72058 brassy brass
game color 72056 glorious gold
game color wash 73200 sepia shade

not only do you get superior coverage, but more paint for the money

Converted Razordon Pack

After converting the firelance cohort, there were a ton of cold one bodies leftover. I grabbed a second hand khorne flesh-hound pack from ebay to kitbash some razordons! Picked up some spikey bits from a chaos spawn as well to give these guys an otherworldly feel. Still have gaps to fill, but wanted to share some WIP shots of these guys!

I like the idea but they look like chaos warped saurus to me

Thanks for the feedback

I actually used to collect chaos! They were my first army, and had huge options for creating spawn-like creatures (especially since there was no sculpt for it yet).

I'm not a lore-buff, but I like to think that it's possible for seraphon to be affected by chaos somewhere in the rifts of summoning. Likewise, maybe these razors were influenced by the powers of slaneesh or tzeentch?

There are also a few handlers on the conversion table, riding little monsters that could also be chaos touched...

That might work. At first glance they looked skaven-or-chaos-corrupted to me, maybe they are some rescued experiments saved from one of the pits of Clan Moulder?? :bag:

I could totally see something like that working for age of sigmar, especially how open ended the fluff is.

Skink Priest

Small update -- a priest! Always wanted this guy and found him on ebay for pretty cheap. A quick paint strip and repaint and the pink skink is ready to go!
