Ah yes, the droid with no filter. Yep, definitely a good character.

K-2 is a brilliant character, and he's actually my favourite Droid (Grievous doesn't count, he's a cyborg). In fact I personally think the Rogue One characters were all so good, so much more human and believable than those in the Original Trilogy.

Personally I think they all pale in comparison to 0-0-0 and BT-1...

The vast majority of Rebel personnel still managed to get away in that film though. They could have had at least a couple of Rebel transports destroyed by the Star Destroyers to make it as dark as people claim it to be.

I hate to be the guy that says the books are better. The original trilogy novels were actually written AFTER the movie. But they filled in some of these holes.

In the novel they didn't have enough bulk transports for everyone. A lot of the Rebels had to flee on smaller ships. The Rebels couldn't protect every ship, so they concentrated on protecting the bulk transports. The bulk transports all got a way but a lot of Rebels taking smaller ships didn't make it. At least there was a good line "Twenty-seven Rebel ships destroyed Lord Vader. We are not sure how many escaped."

More importantly the stormtroopers looked a bit less pathetic in Return of the Jedi. They killed a LOT of Ewoks. The Ewoks only won because they had roughly a 2:1 numbers advantage.

For a couple years, the ONLY books I read for fun were Star Wars books. What knocked me out of that phase was Young Jedi Knights. That novel series isn't terrible, but it's not good. I think in some ways mediocre bothers me more than crappy. Jacen and Jaina Solo were interesting characters and were not carbon copies of Han and Luke, but the supporting cast were carbon copies of legacy characters. Jacen and Jaina didn't need an headstrong exiled princess, Chewbacca's nephew, and a stuffy protocol droid (programmed by Threepio himself) to travel with them.

If you want another decent Star Wars book, try Thrawn by Timothy Zahn. A great origin story for the best villain in Star Wars.

Pity we didn't actually see that happening, and have to rely upon their word for it.

By my reckoning the Ewoks shouldn't have won at all, given how backward their technology was and how advanced Imperial technology was. If the Ewoks actually had metal weapons and were, say, Middle-Ages-era in tech, I can see them winning with a 2:1 numbers advantage, their traps, knowledge of home ground e.t.c, but Stone Age Ewoks defeating an army with tech about 12-13,000 years more advanced than theirs? Just no. That's stretching believability too far.

As much as many of you dislike the Gungans, at least they have a decent level of technological understanding (with many of their weapons producing a biostatic charge that is especially effective at short-circuiting Droids), as well as especially flexible physiques that would make them athletic fighters. Ewoks have none of that.

I can see how those would be bad, being a sceptic of unoriginal fan-service content myself (one of the reasons why I dislike the Sequel Trilogy so much)

    What is Yoda backwards? Adoy!

Of course I read the Thrawn Trilogy.

I know very few Extended Universe novel fans who don't say the Thrawn trilogy was the best one. I certainly liked it. I liked the Jedi Academy Trilogy slightly more than the Thrawn trilogy, but I will concede to popular opinion that Zahn was the best Star Wars EU writer.

From a technical perspective Zahn was a better writer than Anderson. I was just especially fascinating by Jedi in training and seeing Luke grow as a character. One who didn't live like a hermit drinking green milk.

Even though I liked Green Milk Luke et al, I still agree that Zahn's books were pretty good.
    Not my favourites but good.

Both Gungans and Ewoks suck $%#. They both subtracted from the the films they were in.

I love the Thrawn trilogy, but the Darth Bane trilogy remains my favourite.

Well he’s also written a trilogy of books in the new canon which explore more closely the character. I haven’t read the original trilogy, but the new ones are definitely very good, and it’s those I’m recommending
