Star Trek vs. Star Wars (and a collection of memes)

I would say that the new klingons are 25% less good.

The recent Star Trek movies and all the Star Trek shows that were created after Star Trek Nemesis are set place in the Kelvin Universe (the older stuff is either the Prime Universe or the Roddenberry Universe). A parallel universe because the 2000s batch of Star Trek writes were too lazy to look up around canon and now they had a blank slate.

I don't have a problem with the alternate universe. I am a big DC and Marvel fan and I know that most DC and Marvel shows and movies don't exist in the same universe. For instance, Tim Burton's Batman, Zac Syder's Batman, and Christopher Nolan's Batman are not in the same universe.

What I don't like is implementation. Due to IP negotiations, CBS client company can do whatever they what with the Star Trek IP but they cannot collect merchandise or video game royalties from anything from non-Kelvin Star Trek unless the appearance is 25% different. That means the aliens, uniforms, devices, and ships have to be 25% different if they want to collect merchandise $, whatever that means.

(So if you hear the Critical Drinker or Mister Plinket make a snide comment about something being 25% different that's what they are referring to).

The thing is, very few people want to buy Kelvin Universe merchandise.

Also, when his ship blew up (in a Kelvin explosion), as far as Prime was considered, Spock died. Prime Universe Spock instead got sent to the Kelvin Universe which is also about a hundredish years earlier which is why young Spock and old Spock had conversations in Star Trek Into Darkness (it was poorly explained in the movies). They planned to milk this for a long time but then Leonard Nemoy died in real life.

Again I wouldn't have a problem with the alternate universe if the new Star Trek handlers respected the legacy they were given better.
