Heya everybody! My group of gaming friends is getting ready to start up Fantasy, and I've joined in with them. I bought the VC Batallion..and I'm already over them..terrible models :P

Anyways we're starting it up via Tale of Four Gamers style as seen on the GW What's New Today around the release of 8th edition. Now I've cooked up my buying order list according to these rules and I've come to you guys to see if this would make a decent army, and if not what to buy instead. (Keep in mind all the options have to be within that certain unit type.)

Month 1 - Batallion
L&H - Skink Chief BSB

Month 2 - New Unit - Stegadon
Warmachine or equiv - Salamanders
Expand Unit - Temple Guard

Month 3 - IoB Equivalent Units
Lord - Slann
Hero - Skink Priest or Chief (can't really decide yet)
Core - Saurus Warrior Box x2
Special - Temple Guard, Pteradons (Any solutions on these models besides $17 apiece?)

Month 4 - Special - Stegadon
Expand unit or bolster - Salamanders

Month 5 - Centerpiece Unit - Oldblood on Carnosaur

So, any advice would be nice. This is all gonna add up to a 3000 point list when we play on the 6th month. I have to have these painted by the end of month 5 :jawdrop:

Welcome aboard. I like the way you guys are gradually buying the models. It seems like a good way to get them and paint them as you go. As far as the Terradons go, the best way to get them cheap is to keep an eye on ebay, or maybe even craigslist. I have only ever bought two terradons from GW (Tiq'taq'to and one other). The rest have come from bundeled auctions for other lizardmen items on ebay.

Thanks for the advice with he terradons, I'll keep an eye out on ebay and such. I guess I should have been more exact with my questions. For one, I've heard if you're going to run a Slann that you might as well make him your BSB instead of something else. Would this be ideal in general? Or just in certain scenarios. Also would it be worth expanding my CoC that I'm getting with the batallion? More fast stuff usually sounds good especially with how slow Lizards are, but I've heard people say they're kinda garbage. So any advice on that would be awesome! (Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this)
 
Another question remains.. what are you going to do with the VC batallion box? :smug:
 
Hah, I do suppose that is an important question. But one of the people at my FLGS plays VC and he said he'd be interested in buying them. Can never have too many troops as a VC player I suppose :P

As for your list - I've read that method of 4 guys/4 armies in the WD magazine a while ago. I like the idea! Glad to see your group giving it a go. I don't, however, see in your list any chameleon skinks. If you equip the skinks with blowpipes, then you prob can proxy them in as chams, but Im not sure on your club's rules for proxies of models. Either case.. I'd suggest getting some. They are VERY handy as scouts and can take down some nasty warmachines.

As for Terradons - Arli has it right. I got most of mine off ebay. Another place to check is Barterland.com or even allofcraigs.com (this combines all of craigslist's together.. pretty handy with some killer deals).

Yeah I don't think they'd really mind the whole skink thing especially since they're all the same size and what not, and I've heard an easy way to go about it is just to green stuff bigger eyes on them to make them chameleons.

Yeah I'm excited about the Four Gamers thing too, it'll offer us a nice bit of competition before the big game which always makes the game that much better. I'll try and upload some pics, but I only really have a cell phone camera so I don't think I'll have any step by step blogs or anything . Especially since I still have to figure out a scheme :P
