Blog Starting my seraphon painting

Cheers Warden appreciate the kind words. Trying to get back into it is always fun

So i think im close to finishing my bastiladon.. This is the 1st minature that ive ever done a basing for and it was hard to decide on what too much decoration and what wasnt enough lol...so i thought id give him a swampy theme.. Anyway ill post all the pics and please let me know if its too much or not enough cheers...

ive tried out some stuff i found at the local hobby store called AK water gel swamp green

2.jpg

glued down 2 large rocks for the front feet to plant on and the swamp green gel.. starts off a creamy white then goes to a darker green as it slowly dries

ive snapped a small twig from outside to make it look like the bastiladon has smashed through it and broken it down

a standing tree with rocks and moss

That water gel stuff looks interesting! Next time I would definitely build the base up and apply that last. I wouldn't go OTT on adding stuff to the front, you don't want to distract people from the model itself.

If I could offer any other advice it would be to paint the other additions ot the base such as the foliage and branches... At the moment they look like stuff stuck on the base, not part of the base itself.

cheers Ritual... yeah iv tried to place the green gel onto the rocks to make them look like its lapping onto the rocks.. definately looks like ive missed a few cheers.. when the green gel dries ill try and touch it up abit around the bottom where the sand at the back meets the swamp and ill paint the rocks as well..And definately paint the branches and trees to make it fit in more.. thanks for that appriciate the tip

Good work mate! Really nice bases. Do you use actual rocks for your rocks? It's a silly question but I was curious. I have found that bark or cork makes for better rocks than actually rocks. It can be really cheap or free (walk outside or go to a store and ask for a sample). Maybe worth trying if you're not satisfied with your current aesthetic.

I see a very green Stegadon hiding in the background :) Looking forward to seeing that one!!

Hey Joshua with the skinks ive used a mix of real stones and hot glue mounds.. I've noticed alot of peopke using cork, so i might give it a go cheers

All personal preference! Cork and bark do make better pieces for dry brushing. No round edges! :)

Nice work on those. I like the little rainbow feathers.

So been working on my slann base coming along. Pretty happy with the result so far
