8th Ed. Starting the LM - any help is appreciated!

So I'm finally taking the plunge into WHFB (after an aborted attempt over a decade ago when the starter set included LM). I've decided to go with LM because I like dinosaurs, I like the Aztecs, and it seems like they have a variety of army options that are viable and, barring that, at least fun. I like the skinks and chameleons for their mobility and harassment of the other side; the Temple Guard look awesome; and it seems like I can make a slow, lumbering force of death or a core of that while I send out some faster people to chase down and kill (or at least annoy) the other side. Sound about right?

Also, I've heard it's a good time to get into LM. Their codex is solid, and their line was just updated so the models on sale now are not going to be updated anytime soon. Did I hear that right?

I have the codex (and a box of TG I picked up on a whim), but I want to know the best way to get into the army and have a wide field of options. I'd like to start with skinks because I like their speed/skirmishing, but I'd also like to have the big guys to field that type of army when the mood strikes me.

So best start? Should I get a battleforce or two? Individual boxes? Preferably I'd like to have a solid number of options, the ability to field armies anywhere from 1000-2500 points, and just a lot of dinos to mess around with. Don't worry too much about cost - I've saved up a bit for this headlong plunge.

first of all, it depends what you want to play;

first of all; a slann, salamanders and skinks , u can never go wrong!

2nd; u like a firm combat force? pick up saurus warriors and temple guard
or u prefer a skirmish list, with some dinos? pick up stegadons, and skink skirmishers, maybe some terradons, chamelion skinks can be made from the normal skinks

3: u could go for a mixed force, pick up a battalion box or 2, and fill in the rest with what ever suits your style

Mmmmm if you have money then I'd say pick up a Slann and a battalion box and then work from there. If you already have a box of TG then a unit of Skinks, Saurus, and filling out your TG with 20 to protect your Slann.. Thats a good start to a solid force Then you might pick up a Stegadon, two more boxes of Saurus, Two more boxes of Skinks, some Salamanders, and a Skink Priest. A second Battalion Box is only needed if you want to get another 10 TG and don't mind the extra Cold One Cavalry (not too many people have been using them as their uses were somewhat limited in 8th edition as well as most other armies heavy cavalry as well). I'm going to pick up the Battalion and a skink priest for now, then a slann and some extra units in the near future. I'm trying to keep pace with a friend's collection so he doesn't get disheartened when he sees my forces pile up!
