7th Ed. steggie squad question

I read somewhere on this site that you can put a stegadon with a chief or priest in a unit of skinks. is this true? and is it worth it?

and another question is would you be able to put them in a unit of Saurus?

or a skink chief by homself in a unit of saurus?

All of those are doable I think, though joining the steg to saurus would severely hamper its movement. Joined to skinks he keeps the same movement, but loses some flexibility in movement.

I could be totally wrong though.

Yep that is right. I don't really see much point in putting a steg in a unit of skinks though.... And definitely not with Saurus since it would only move 4" as Caneghem said.

I can sortof understand stubborn but what rule gives the unit the steggie joins impact hits...
and does that mean I'd roll d6 for teh steggie then d6 for the unit he is with?

Ofcourse they dont get impacthits! He meant the unit will benefit from the steggies impacthits.

In the big rules book. Characters that are stubborn that join units can use their leadership value, so if you are leadership 7 as a stubborn skink and are with saurus, and lose by 5, you roll at leadership 7. Leadership 6 stubborn in same situation, roll at 6.

Part of the point of putting a steg into the skinks is the steg gains rank bonuses and banner bonuses, and the skinks gain come CR due to kills and probably outnumber, plus the thing causes terror so it can frequently beat units like trolls, ogres, and cavalry that tend to have low US.

A skink unit with few kroxigors and a chief ridden stegadon sounds nice (I might even add a war drum to it). I simply must try it. Ld7 stubborn + cold-blooded AND re-rollable break test (like they would lose) is way too sweet of an idea to be ignored. Even if it's not the most effective unit choice and it has its drawbacks, I'm going to try it just for the fun of it

Edit: And sorry about that stupid question. I should check the rulebook before asking things like that. It's just that a situation like this has never crossed my path.

"If either the rider or the steed is subject to any of these rules,the whole combined model is. ..."

Second, how the Stegadon Model with a Character confers Stubborn to the unit:

WRB pg 78-79 - Character - Psychology - Stubborn
"If a character that is Stubborn himself joins a unit then the unit can use the character's unmodified Leadership for Break Tests (effectively becomming Stubborn themselves if they are not already) as well as other Leadership tests."

Well thanks but I already found that one out. I knew about the combined model rule with characters, but the stubborn for the whole unit was a bit shady and it still doesn't sound right. But it seems the rules say so and the rules are something you must follow, even when they seem irrational.

if I did have the steggie in a squad of skinks and kroxigors how big do you think the squad should be and should I give them a muscian and standard bearer?

and if equipped properly you'd think a skink chief on a steggie would make a wonderful tarpit in a squad of saurus, even though it would slow down the stegadon once they got into CC it would be scary with the stubborn saurus and a stegadon give the skink chief a wardrum and or a decent weapon.
