Blog Suds Painting 2019: End of the Year Closing. Thanks Everyone for the support and great community!

Fantastic beastie roaming through the trees!

Do you plan to add a bit more undergrowth at the bases of the trees?

Thanks so much! So far I love how she and her base have come out, she has a few minor details I need to correct, but yeah.

I am indeed! Some of the tree trimmings are perfect for bushes and I may also add a boulder or two. I dont want to make it too busy, but yes, some added undergrowth is definitely needed I agree

Awesome cold one color scheme!
Thank you! Still trying to stick with the vibrant theme! Need to do some dry brushing and highlights on the scales and spine. Thinking Kindlerflame for the orange areas, not sure on the blue

I like the blue color, it does look pretty cool, but if you find something you like more then go for it

Ended up doing just a light skink blue on certain areas and am thinking of doing another very light coat of the contrast again to give it that very subtle difference

Send in the results, as the process you used sound pretty cool

Current Work up for my idea of an Astrolith Banner on a 60mm disc. I guess I dont totally know the lore behind it, but I vire it as a gateway and a magic enhancer. My vision was a Astrolith Banner of "Beasts/Serpents" with a Carnosaur being summoned to the battle field. The Banner itself is kinda big, was originally planning on putting it on a Cold One rider or Oldblood body, but now thinking of maybe a Kroxigor? Ill see what works best I suppose, could even Mount it on a beastie!

What do yall think? Nothing is glued down yet, just wanted to see how it could look20190909_154217.jpg 20190909_163602.jpg 20190909_163612.jpg

I certainly will! Here is a small update :) I've used it in other projects, quite like it. You can tell mostly i suppose with the dark blue where the skink blue is still subtly visable on the peaks of the scales and the side angles.20190909_170149.jpg 20190909_170207.jpg 20190909_170238.jpg 20190909_170149.jpg 20190909_170207.jpg 20190909_170238.jpg

I think that will work. :)

Which one do you think would be best? Lots of options there, ha
I like the one with the Carno-head.

But all of them look sorta empty. There is lotsa flat surface on the disk.

About the size of the disc. A 25mm disc is five feet across in real life. A 30mm disc translates to 6 feet. A 60mm disc is a 12 foot diameter circle.

The size of these things disturbs me a bit.

Maybe go smaller? Move more of the gubbins (Not! Gibbons) inside the disc?

Is a 25mm the size the saurus are placed on? If so, the Carno head wouldnt fit well with the other decorations, I do agree about the dead space. Im just using left over pieces I have left. Was thinking of doing designed with elmeber glue and then painting them, but eh...

Not sure why the size matters?

What is the astrolith made of?

Bronze? Does Lith = Stone? Imagine a disc made of either material 12 feet wide and about 8 inches thick. Imagine trying to lift that or stand it on a pole. It would weigh hundreds of pounds.

Maybe it’s made of pumice or paper maché ?
~~~~~ that’s ^ why ~~~~~
Do you have a 40mm disc?
No, I do not Im using left over parts that I have as I stated.
I was imagining it being made out of gold, and I find it hard to believe that a Kroxigor or some beast would have an issue holding that up on some sort of strong support, both are raw muscle. It honestly might go on my Troglodon or Thunderlizard, we shall see.
Ill look to see about a 40mm or 50mm round base, but Im pretty broke as I have been in and out of the hospital for the last 3 months
My favourite is the one with the Carno head, too.
As for what to do with the size and the resulting empty space.... no clue.
Thank you! I for the most part am very happy with how its turning out... however, I am not totally sure about the dead space either. Part of me is tempted to use liquid water to make a "summoning" effect under the Carno head, may look into it as ive never done that and am not 100% sure how to make that happen
I have a bunch of spare 51mm rounds (empty 2 inch D&D / RPG bases).
I apologize for raining on the parade a bit. Sometimes I let the laws of physics crush the Rule of Cool. But I am inclined to paint one gold also.
But maybe not solid gold. :sorry: Gold is heavy.
Here are some quick back-of-envelope calculations with the help of google and web/based converters. :bookworm:
25mm Base
That is a 5 foot diameter, 3/5ths of a foot deep cylinder. 11.78 cubic feet volume.
14,208 pounds
6.44 Metric Tonnes (If solid gold)
60mm Base
That is a 12 foot diameter, 3/5ths of a foot deep cylinder. 11.78 cubic feet volume.
80,809 pounds
36.65 Metric Tonnes (If solid gold)
~~~~~~~~~~~~

Krox are strong but 6-36 tonnes ??? o_O

I have been contemplating attempting this conversion also which is the reason for my interest in the thread.

I would be happy to send you a 50mm round by post. If you think that will help with the blank space problem.

Next question: have you given any thought to what the reverse side will look like?
