16, although the Slann not being in the middle annoys me to no end, so they're being bumped up to 18/20 running 6 wide at 2k.

I know what you mean, it also annoys me that you have to have the Standard to one side of him rather than slap bang in the middle.

I run 20 and run them 6 wide.

But I think I may start forgoing the TG and opting for 8 Kroxigors and a crown of command.

19 S6 attacks (Great Weapons), cause fear, stomp attacks and have multiple wounds. (of course Slann has to hang out to one side because he is on a 50 and Krox on 40s)

I mostly play 3k point value games, my play group is combat heavey all the time. So I run mine 6 wide and have 26 of them. This gives me a nice square 6x5 block when the slann goes in.

My question is with deployment. Do you drop your slann with the TG or do you wait for hero deployment?

since spells are generated before deployment and the enemy knows im going to use a slann, i drop him with the temple guards from the beggining. even if i have loremaster on slann..

...about the frontage, i have to say that 6 wide is a totally suicide against ogres. i play a lot against them. and usually comes a unit 4 front with tyrant bruiser butcher and standard bearer in front with 6-8 ironguts from behind.. now tell me..

I do not think I would ever engage that unit with less a flank charge and a front charge both with heroes.

the problem is that they are the ones who charge you first..

when that unit is placed on the board get the hell out of the way then. Deploy in the back of you deployment zone or spread way out!!! if I want to avoid a unit until turn 5-6 I have never had trouble doing so. and even with thier high S dwellers is a great spell for that unit. if you cna get it off on them 2-3 times you should see some nice results

Assuming a 3k game, you could always go for the one up: 45 TG, Chakax and Slann with Loremaster:Life. Nothing like an unbreakable horde with regen.

The only problem with that is the massive cost of the unit. Chakax really isn't worth his 300+ (335?) pricetag, IMO.

Mine used to be (when I did run them) 20 TG and a Slann. 6x4. Though, with 8thed I mihgtfield a few more of casulty soaking.

agreed, it is a massive point pit. i use that list more for the theme than for the competition. only time i've pulled it out recently is against skaven. slann + brass orb = insta-fail for me consistently. can't hurt to have that re-rolled LoS.

When I run TG, it's always with a Slann, and use 20 at 2k and 26 at 2500 with the Sun Standard (the armies I have the most trouble with are the ones with LOTS of shooting). It is a lot of points, but I almost always use Lore of Light, so no Regrowth. 6 wide works well in my experience with 25mm bases, and it's nice to get the max CR by having 3 bonus ranks still intact once I get them in CC most times at 2500 (and 2 at 2k). Strength 5 attacks also seem to be the sweet spot with T3/5+AS being by far the most common thing to go against.
