Temple Guard w/ Slann

Recently finished off 20 Temple Guard. Here's a shot of everyone with my Slann:

Nice! I'm assembling my first battalion set waiting to be painted (painting for the first time), so my temple guards won't sadly be as great looking as yours ^^

@FavoredoftheOldOnes - I have a few more pictures of the unit in progress and the Slann by himself on my blog http://1inchwarriors.blogspot.com/. This is the only angle of the unit as a whole, they barely fit into my tiny light box!

@slannFrogy - For the gold I start with an undercoat of either Cathal Brown or Beastial Brown, since it's near impossible to get a good layer of gold over black primer. Then I put down a base coat of Shining Gold, followed by a wash of Delvan Mud (for the Slann I used the old brown ink since I did him before GW came out with the washes). After that, I did a highlight with Shining Gold. Finally, the whole area gets a dark green wash (you can use watered down Dark Angels Green or the new Citadel Wash, but the latter will be more intense). I don't how this would turn out with the new GW paints since I still have plenty of the old colors.

The Slann was an on-again-off-again project than spanned almost six years - I did each major component (throne/frog/base) separately. If I had to estimate, I'd say he didn't take longer than 20 hours total, possibly less since I primary used a controlled dry brush to paint him.

The TG are hard to estimate too. I started with the skin and scales, which when really fast since I was able to base coat wit the GW spray gun and then wash/dry brush the whole unit at once. It's the details of these models that is the real time suck. I also built them with the little jaw bone pieces that attach to the sides of their helmets, making them harder to paint - I know why so many other people skip these parts! I don't get too much time to paint so it took me a couple of months to finish the unit, discounting the couple of long breaks I took.

May the gods bless you for this! Now i finally don't have to put 8 layers of bronze on top of my basecoat anymore... Why didn't I think of that >.<

@Didymus - I had the same problem when I started painting. Probably took me several years to figure that one out! Another trick you can use is to mix in a suitable brown paint with your metallic gold or bronze for a base coat and then layer up to the straight metallic color.
