The Batman: Pics, Videos, and Other Awesomeness

I think Willem Dafoe would be a good Joker in any movie, but I think if there was a live action version of the Dark Knight Returns (the graphic novel), he would ideal.

In that graphic novel series, Bruce Wayne hung up his cape for about ten years because he was getting old, then a worsening Gotham pushed him to becoming Batman again.

Joker unofficially retired when Batman did and the Joker resumed killing after Batman resumed heroism. Willem Dafoe's age would be an asset not a liability in this scenario.

A "tame" Joker got a spot on a talk show, then he proceeded to kill the entire studio audience in one go. This almost doubled his overall kill count.

Batman decided at this point that his refusal to kill the Joker was a mistake and he tried to kill the Joker but then Batman stopped himself at the last minute leaving Joker merely badly beaten. Joker mocks him for not going through with it then snaps his own neck causing police to believe Batman did it. For the rest of the graphic novel, Batman is being actively pursued by the law.

Maybe Willem Dafoe could play an aged Joker in a Batman Beyond movie, but I still like the idea that Terry McGinnis Batman is mostly dealing with new villains rather than cleaning up the skeletons in Bruce's closet.

Though the fight between Terry and Joker was pretty awesome. They had to use a lot of sci-fi babble to make this possible. This Joker had an old Joker's experience and physical strength exceeding what he had in his youth. I'm not sure I want to see a teenager fight Willem Dafoe, you know unless the teenager is Spider-man.

For context, the weird smiley face computer chip is how Joker cheated death and borrowed a new body.

I am kind of a sheep in that, if Critical Drinker says a movie is good, I will watch it.

Note I am also a huge Batman fan, so I guess I was probably going to watch the next Batman movie anyway unless....

1) Critical Drinker says, The Batman is as bad as Joel Shumacher's Batman and Robin

2) The Batman was blatantly pandering to the CCP

3) The Batman casted Amber Heard in it.

None of these occurred. The Critical Drinker pointed out some flaws in The Batman, but he seemed pleased with the overall result. He describes it as a somewhat flawed (especially in pacing), but ultimately this movie sincere attempt to honor the legacy of DC's most iconic character.



I doubt I'll have time to watch this movie myself until at least Friday, but I'm looking forward.

A movie doesn't have to be a masterpiece for me to watch it and enjoy it. A movie just has to be a masterpiece for me to watch it and enjoy it several times.
