Started on my Skink Priest and wanted to use the opportunity to try some new techniques. Feathers are very present in the Seraphon model range, but I've never had a great technique for painting them. I have no airbrush, but I remembered an old video about "wet blending", so I tried that technique. Watering down paints & using a wet palette were some of the best choices I made a while ago, and I tried it on the feathers.

The priest is still a work in progress, but I'm very happy with the results right now!


The colors of the feathers are Stegadon Green, Xereus Purple, Genestealer Purple and Scar White, blended together. The skin is the standard Tallarn Sand/Ushanti Bone with a Seraphim Sepia wash, the ornaments are Hashut Copper with an Auric Armor Gold drybrush and Seraphim Sepia wash.

I've painted my Ripperdactyl test model again and again, still not satisfied. I've looked at many different options, but the large surface that is the Ripper wing is giving me headaches. This is my "final" result as of now, but this might not be the definitive version for my army. Would love to hear your opinion on them and how you do them yourselves.

I think it looks quite cool... If your afraid that it doesn't fit your army as a whole you could pick up one of the colours you used in other units... Like the cold ones ...
I'm still debating on a paint scheme for my own rippers ... Thought of some night sky colours... Dark blue and purple... But I think that's too far away from the desert theme you have chosen for your army...

I think the rippers look awesome. They have the rainbow sheen to them, kind of like the scales on a fish, or a crow's feathers. I think it is a brilliant effect you have here.

I'm moving away from the colors of my cold ones, I think I may make them a reddish purple, so it still fits the tone of the army.

I guess it depends on what you don't like about the wing span but, you can always try adding a design?

I forget who it was but there was some beautiful sort of sigelled wings one member did. I personally added stripes to the tips of mine.

Time for an update! I'm taking quite some time off from work for the holidays, so I got myself into a project. Firstly, finishing up my Rippers. I like how my first one turned out, but the other two will have some different patterns. I'm thinking to buy myself a Thunderbeast Starhost box, and try to make better looking Rippers in the future. Basecoat for them was watered down Bestial Brown (Mournfang), then washed with a watered down Tallarn Sand. I left it very uneven & rough, because wings.



I found my old Kroq-Gar (metal!) and was surprised at how small it actually is. In my current army I'm not using a Carnosaur (I know, they're really good), but I like how my style has progressed since I painted this one.



Which leads me to my next project:




Man, do the Lizardmen have great models or what? Just look at that beast.

Nice scheme and painting. You're quite the talent. Following your desert theme, if you get any Terradon's you may consider doing them in a sky blue pattern or even something akin to a dusk or dawn pattern. Depending on the hunt cycle your terradons would follow. I might have missed it, but did you paint the bloat toad yet?

Thank you! I bought my Rippers second hand, and it didn't come with a blot toad. I might pick one up when I buy my second set!
