Blog The Grove: Personal and Commission Works

Do you do a lot of commissions?

I have thought about starting to do some but unsure if there is a need.
I do them here and there. I am not super aggressive trying to get commissions. I mostly advertise on dakkadakka.com My gallery there is a lot bigger. I've done some pretty big armies, mostly 40k. My last was a pretty big Grey Knights army. I mostly paint and sell my stuff on ebay. Sucks you have to pay fees but this way I can paint what i want and sell it.

I do the same with ebay but it can be risky as I have found with a couple of models.

I always dreamt of painting full time but that was just a pipe dream.

There is a need in the sense that you will get work. However, its not like you'll be rushed off your feet. Theres only a few really decent commission companies in the U.K that I know about.

Buyer saying the model is broken etc, painting a model that does not sell that sort of thing.

I think doing commissions would be a satisfying venture, not to make money but a sense of pride, that make sense?

True they do seem thin on the ground but as a spare time thing could be worth a try.

Ah i gotcha.
For me commission's are all about making money. Especially since its a lot of time invested. I do have very good prices, everyone who sees my work says I should charge more but I am happy where I'm at with everything.

Looked through the post and I love your models, they are so clean !!
Thanks! Be sure to follow me, I will be posting a tonnnnnnns of stuff. If you are on dakkadakka.com as well look me up there. I have a gallery full of pics besides lizardmen!

Well it was very worth it, the gold specially looks very well done, it does actually look like gold, and not yellow with sparkles. Which paint did you use?

Hmmm I'll have to check. Its two different gold from the Badger Minitaire Line while other gold acsents on banners and such were from GW the Retributor base coat and layer paints.

The Badger stuff as a lot of metallic in it. Its cool stuff but can be a paint to air brush at time and does not coat well with a hand brush.

Ok thanks anyways (I don´t have an airbrush) :)

Im back! The last week and a half I was working on a Skaven commission that I received randomly. I got started back up on the Stegadons yesterday. Almost done with the back parts then I move onto the 10 Skinks i need to paint.... ugh not looking forward to that.
