Me too. It's going to be a sight to behold. An entire Lizardmen city spanning the entirety of a gaming table!

Keep up the great work and updates @Warden

Small update, not much, but it is my first experiment with magnets! Decided to rip apart my coatl and rider and do some very VERY simply magnetization. Next time I will try to hide the magnet a bit more.

Now I can run a skink chief on foot, or just a coatl!

Nice! You could paint the magnet on the base to look like ruins so they don´t show as much :D

That is the plan! @Slanputin posted the other pictures I was using as a reference; thanks both of you!. When I get time I need to make some sketches of the cities I was thinking of. I was hoping to base the layout of my city plan after either the real-world Mayan cities of Tikal, Palenque, or Copan. With lots of Lizardmen elements.

So I won't be adding many Lizardmen miniatures to this blog for a while...

BUT I did just finish my entry for the Golden Serpent! No spoilers of that here, but on the side I was able to base my Coatl and his rider's separate base finally!

    IMG_0420.jpg

This makes my Coatl the first (and only) Lizardmen model that I have completely painted and based up to this point.

    IMG_0422.jpg

Here is a shot of the skink chief Ubah Kan with his on-foot base:

    IMG_0425.jpg

And here are a few extra panorama shots of the Coatl itself without his magnetized rider. Had to do a few touch ups.

He isn't quite large enough to sky-drop a stegadon into battle, but I like how he turned out! Hope you enjoyed the pictures!

Ubah Kan and the Coatl look amazing! So bright and colourful, so deadly, just so damn cool! I like how you have made Ubah Kan transferable from Coatl to base. Really awesome concept here. Too bad he can't air drop the stegadon! That would be a devastating attack!

Real cool! But it´s good he can´t drop a stegadon, it would cost too many points and I don´t think the latter would survive the fall :p

Thank you! I knew I was going to be away from my worktable for several months, so I decided to buckle down and get some major projects done. The sad thing is each project spawns two or three more!

Here is one I realized I forgot to post previously, my first experiment with water effects! I made this well as part of my super-cheap jungle terrain, and am slowly going to go back and give it some proper muddy basing. The well is the first one I fixed up, and poured some water effects inside to give it a watery sheen.

    IMG_0475.JPG

Kinda hard to see. The water underneath is mostly green, inspired by the rivers I got to see when I was visiting Mayan ruins in Belize. I may or may nt have tried using water effects in my Golden Serpent entry... and it may or may not have been a little tricky to do the first time. :banghead: Very glad I at least tried it on this well first.

More experimentation will be in order someday. I would love to add a little water effects to the bases of my skink skirmishers.

I am really excited to see what you're bringing to the Golden Serpent!
This well is awesome and as soon as I saw that greenish water I thought, yes he nailed that perfectly! Really a great piece of terrain. Small and simple, but perfect.

I love that you have implemented different spawnings in your army! I also thought that it was such a cool piece of background fluff and I was saddened to see it didn't return in the 7th edition army book. I think your army is looking great and it is really a nice thing to see that you write so detailed describtions of lore for your units. Its very cool to get to know the painter's own thoughts about his projects so I was very entertained by reading through your painting blog :) Also that is some amazing pieces of terrain you've made for yourself and what a great looking Coatl aswell!. Really good job - I'm very impressed with your work :)

That spawning pool is awesome! It´s so little, it will mostly spawn skinks :p. Rule wise, every turn you get 2D6 skinks forming a new unit in base contact with the spawning pool.

    Been a while.

Since the Golden Serpent has ended (lots of great stuff here if you haven't checked it out, so many ideas), its time to show off my entry! Feels like ages ago when I put this thing together.

    Skink Warchief on Troglodon

Never did come up with a good name for the chief yet, but it will probably have something to do with being "pale as death." The conversion is 100% inspired by the amazing unfinished conversion done by @Skinquisitor over at his blog, and partially by the AMAZINGLY painted troglodon conversion painted by @kubapj over here. I loved Skinquisitor's design, it was something I wanted to try for a long time. The contest was a great impetus for me to try something new.

The head/neck, tail, and back sail are all straight from the carnosaur box. So was the skink chief, except for his head which is the one from the terradon box. Pretty sure that is where his spear came from too. The body is made out of clay, scales had to be carved out twice because I messed up the first time. The base is a resin cast my brother made, since it was an extra he let me use it. Finally got the chance too!

Since I wanted the option to remove the skink for transport/battles I added another small base along with some cheap magnets.

After painting the troglodon, I experimented with water effects!

This one shows both the Trog rider, my coatl rider on his separate base, and my other knightly Golden Serpent competitor!

Had to board up the side of the base with flashcards. The water effects were bought cheap from a craft store (Hobby Lobby).

Once the base water was done (just the standard water-effect stuff over greenish paint) I added the actual rapid-water effect. Doesn't come off too well in the picture, but I also need more practice. I enjoyed producing my first attempt!

    Trog 5.jpg
Also added some small stones/branches at this stage.

    Completed Skink Warchief and Troglodon
    Trog 6.jpg

Last step was just to add some jungle plants to the base and lilly pad (made with cut up jungle leaves) to the water. Very pleased with how the troglodon itself came out.

    Trog 7.jpg

Also happy with the chief himself. The feathers on the sides of his helmet were made to be reminiscent of king Pakal the Great straight out of Civ 5, who has all those feathers on his headdress. Needs more feathers...

I used the steps to paint space marine eyes to make his helmet-eyes look like jewels. Now if only space marine eyes were this easy to paint :shifty:

Hope you enjoyed the troglodon conversion as much as I enjoyed/was challenged in making it. Congrats to all the Golden Serpent 2016 winners!

I really like how it turned out! It's cool to see all the effort you put into this. The base is awesome aswell :) The spinosaur is such a cool dinosaur. I can understand why GW wanted to make a model based on it. Great work Warden!
