Blog The Jade Host: Mayan Lizardmen

I'm really impressed by your army. There is something in fully painted armies that just makes it all worth.

Also that has to be the best fluff I've ever read for an army, congratulations that kept me reading all the way through.

Thanks for sharing, it's been a real pleasure

Those troglodons are killer. I'll def try and do something with my spare parts as well then! :D

@Warden , I feel the same as Itep, I really love the way you fluff it all out with glyphs. It seems such an awesome line of thought to me (I'm primarily a history graduate so you hit the bull's eye here) ^^

Dunno if you've ever read Corto Maltese comics, but there is one called 'Mu' where the hero goes through a dreamy labyrinth in a kinda Mayan temple. I'll be trying to use it myself when I get to my lizards, and you might wanna check it out too if you ever need inspiration :)

I have not read Corto Maltese, but I have heard of Mu. The idea of lost continents (Mu, Lemuria, Atlantis) was always very interesting, as is all the lore surrounding the creation of many ancient cultures (even if most of the stuff has been disproved :(). I will have to check out some of the artwork for future inspiration, thanks for the tip!

my pleasure. it is indeed one of the many reinterpretations of the lost city myth and Pratt makes it really magical, hope you'll like it if you get the chance to read it :D

Got a few terrain pictures for you. If you have gotten this far you need to check out @n810 's Lizardmen/terrain blog, and some of the awesome links provided by @pendrake

Some of my terrain pieces:

Jungle Terrain (sorry, no dirt/mud basing yet...)

These pieces are made from simple hobby foam painted to look like grey stone, with lots of plastic jungle-looking plants covering the bases. I haven't made trees yet, but I am currently getting a lot of inspiration from @Jorgik's blog and his amazing jungle trees.

Jungle Fortress- Way back my brother and I used to fight siege scenarios (from the back of the old 2002 warhammer rulebook) using old lego castles. I decided to start putting together my own but never finished it yet. Still have to paint it and fix the towers/turrets.

Road and Plaza- I am very happy with how these turned out. Only four pieces of the jungle road right now, maybe more later.

I also used a bunch of lego to put together buildings for terrain when I first started! Then I built an outhouse, which amazingly randomly rolled as the wyrding well. It was used as that ever since! Also bought some cheap MageKnight castles which worked perfectly. So we started moving from lego and boxes, but we still play in an 8x4 white board so we can draw on rivers, lakes or forests. Also we can write down the effects of terrain in or beside it.

(sorry, no dirt/mud basing yet...)
I can't wait to see it with the basing. The jungle pieces are great... but that stonework with the glyphs in the courtyard is absolutely sublime! I love it (I might have to steal the idea... if you don't mind of course :)). Do you have any in progress pictures of it? How long did it take to construct?
