Blog The Jade Host: Mayan Lizardmen

I can't wait to see it with the basing. The jungle pieces are great... but that stonework with the glyphs in the courtyard is absolutely sublime! I love it (I might have to steal the idea... if you don't mind of course :)). Do you have any in progress pictures of it? How long did it take to construct?

Yes! I do have some WIP shots:

Very simple construction, I think I made it over the span of two days? The base is just a block of foam board, and the details are soft foam painted to look roughly like stone.

Final product minus the small snake in the upper left hand corner.

That central lizard square looks great!! :p:D

Also thanks! Its one of the symbols out of the army book, it was the hardest of all the glyphs to cut out of the foam.

Bonus points to anyone who can translate the Lizardmen glyphs.

This looks fantastic! This is kne of the coolewt terrain set pieces I have ever seen! Amazing work! Unfortunately I can not translate! But it looks awesome!

So I have been concentrating on my Bretonnians lately, AND just started on some dwarfs,

BUT I also made these dudes in a quick experiment:

Cast Slann.JPG

My dreams of having an entire court of Slann may come to a reality soon! I was really surprised how much lighter the resin slann were to the metal one. Turned out good, if I ever get around to painting them I will let you know!

Well the metal guy isn't glued down so I they will be swappable. I really want to make one guy directly carried by temple guard, and another one with some sort of slann death mask, maybe something like this old picture:

Straight out of one of the old Mordheim Town Cryers! Probably my favorite bit of Warhammer Art. I know someone on this site already cast something like this, I hope I can do it justice!

I think a council of slann would look incredible! @Rikard sculpted incredible that looks like that picture, you can see it here:

good to see more of your casting ;)
go for it man! There surely are plenty of ways to go about that palanquin.

Great casting on those guys! How much detail are you losing, if any?

Surprisingly I didn't loose any detail on the Slann, just a few small air bubbles on the hands that I will probably plug with clay but they are barely noticible.

Thank you! :)

I am going to finish a re-sculpt at some point, I just need a winning euro millions ticket so I can quit work, buy myself a nice house somewhere quiet and sculpt away to my heart's content.

Terrain Update!

Got all four walls painted grey finally, also added some detail to the wall's flooring to have it match the plaza. After it dries I have a lot of undergrowth and dirt to add to the bases.

When I get more progress done I will post better pictures of the outer walls.

And here is a shot of the door, fresh with its first coat of grey and waiting on the light grey stone-coat.

Jungle Fortress WIP 5 Door.jpg

The door is made out of the same foam being used as the bases for the wall segments. The front wall is built so that the doors can open to let the defender's sally forth, or to just come off if they are beaten down by a battering ram. Inspiration for the door's design is taken from a picture of a golden mask in the 6th edition Lizardmen book!

This is so cool! Absolutely brilliant project! The floor looks great! Perfect inspiration for the style!
