This price thing is frustrating. I have been trying to get a bunch of friends into the game but they aren't because of the price! I know many who have gone off to play Malifaux instead since its been cheaper.

Seriously, I want to build up my army and play proper, and I've got a regularly paying job, decently too, but even then I am thinking twice about buying more and more models!

When I started back into the hobby in Feb I noticed straight away that the prices seemed alot but when you look at the quality the price does not seem too high, the latest releases however seem very expensive, I have bought Skarbrand now but I paid £63.95 on ebay, you have to take your time and not buy as soon as they are released.

What I have noticed more is second hand models are not selling like they used to. (on ebay UK)

    Slightly vulgar, but totally accurate.

I ran into that problem as well. At this point the cost is so high that I can't even begin to justify trying to get my friends into the hobby.

The AoS box set is very attractively priced... that could be a good starting point. Or Ebay!

I've been watching Ebay in the UK since the release of Skarbrand, £80 then £72 then £63.95 (I bought at this) and found one for £58
AOS starter box is a very good deal £60 on ebay, especially if you and a friend buy one each and swap models.

I just watch ebay for Skinks, oh and Gryph-Hound models. I don't want to fork out £23 everytime I want to buy a Hound. Skinks are for just expanding the army (can't have enough skinks) I also need Terradon/ Ripper riders.

Skinks should be quite cheap on Ebay. The Terradon/Rippers are usually fairly pricey on Ebay, but still better than buying from GW.

Agreed. As long as the person likes at the very minimum one of the two factions it is an awesome deal.

what did you expect? You will need less models for the current AoS game, so the overhead per model goes up.

And that is exactly the point of AoS i really dont understand, considering it does not really seem to create a bigger player base.

And now Archaon is folllowed by a new large cavalry version of the chaos knight, at the small price of only 100$ for 3 models, twice the price of the skullcrushers, a bargain <sarcasm>

My local store suggested eBay for me when I wanted more models just because they are too expensive and apparently have not been selling all too well at least at my local. It seems most players in my area have just about given up.

Ouch, and that's $120 up here in Canada. Absolutely insane IMHO.

I've given AoS a hard time in the past, but to be honest it came about just at the right time. I haven't been even slightly tempted by any of these overpriced models. If 9th edition had followed instead, I might have had dilemma on my hands.

$200 for a single leader model for a tabletop wargame?

    That makes no sense.

$200 for an incredibly detailed, large scale, warship model...I could see that. (One of those with all the sails, individual cannons, ratlines, rigging, and so forth...)

(Or, USS Enterprise, CV-6, scale 1:350 — hull is about 28x4 inches, lotsa AA gun detail, & all the wee little airplanes of a WW2 aircraft carrier. It was $182.00 on Amazon. )

I went to say goodbye at my local store, cause i will be moving back from Turkey to the Netherlands next week. And since i am the only player with BA ww2 soviets he gave me the last box of Soviet Siberian veteran infantry with a bit of discount. I got it for ca, 25 Euro, however normally this box would be like 35 Euro's. Lets compare this to GW

Now the pricing of GW is totally weird as 20 Saurus are like 30 Euros, however Temple guard is 45 Eur for 15. the Black orc box will only get you 10 models for 34 Euros, or comon orcs 10 for 23 Euro's (Which is still based on black orcs/temple guard being a special choice and common saurus/orcs core, which does not exist in AoS anymore).

Anyway if we compare the Soviet box (which is a veteran unit so more comparable to temple guard or other special choices than to core boxes) to these boxes the difference is quite staggering.

The siberian vet box will get you 34 models,
-of which 32 are the basic plastic guys with a variety of guns (although you could also make some special weapon teams, snipers, anti tank rifles, officers etc).
-You will also get a metal officer/character model
-Plus a metal/plastic special weapons team, 1 metal model with a metal Medium machine gun (you need to use 2 plastic regular guys to complete the team).
-To spice up the plastic guys, you also get loads of extra metal head variant and some metal alternative arms and weapons and back packs.

Quality wise there is a bit of a difference, but none that most gamers would find problematic. Also from a design perspective, historical models are probably cheaper to make, (although perhaps the time you save on the design you have to spent on historical research).

The bottom line, however, is that with a 100 Euro's investment you will have a totally playable army, which for many people is an acceptable investment to try out a new game. And if i take myself as an example, I just took up Bolt Action, because some others were starting and It would not be a huge investment to jump on the bandwagon. It was my intention to just buy the Soviet starter army (60 infantry, a tank, officer set and a mortar team) and leave it at that. However by now i have added this Siberian veteran box, but also another tank, a self propelled artillery gun, 3 armored cars, a truck, an artillery piece and a tankhunter. And I am now even considering buying a small (like i can keep things small) german force as well.
