The looming excitement that might be TW warhammer II

Anyone else mildly interested in the desert warriors culture pack for Rome 2 they just announced?

To be fair, I am extremely happy to see them support older titles. I've put 500 odd hours into Rome 2. I don't think it's as bad as people make it out to be
I've never played a single Total War game, but it is nice to know that companies stand behind their products and continue to support them.

You should, even the old old ones that look like crap compared to today's graphics are a hell of a lot of fun.
I'm more of a console guy. I've never really got into computer games. I may one day make an exception for TW: Warhammer when I eventually get a new computer.

You are aware consoles are 2-5 years behind the current technology curve, correct?

I am indeed. But they are far more cost effective and each game created for a console is optimized to work with it. When I pick up a PS4 game for instance, I know it will work perfectly for my system. It is an easy and trouble free platform.

Also, when you refer to the technological curve, that for the most part translates into improvements in terms of graphics, resolution and frame rate. The games are pretty much exactly the same when it comes to game play (for the most part, total war being an exception, but consoles have exclusive games as well). I find the graphics/resolution/frame rate of the games I play on my PS4 to be spectacular. I don't care to invest a whole lot more for what in the end amounts to marginal gains.

So yes, computers are ahead of the curve, but you pay a very high premium for those gains.

A good riposte, m'lord Top hat .Touche

Yeah I can't see how you can call consoles behind when you factor cost into it.

Boy I'm glad I chose easy. I'm getting relentlessly attacked by lizardmen and skaven. The golden temple has swapped hands 5 times. Ambushes are very annoying.

Who are you playing as?

Kroq-Gar

My plan was to rapidly expand and gain full control of two provinces, then sure things up from there.

Kroq-Gar took his party west to gain full control (of whatever province the golden temple/tower is with) and my second lord took a 6 saurus unit to secure the coastline. Now he has been manically defending raids against the serpent one and the golden one as I've been getting hit hard. Kroq-Gar got virtually no resistance, if I had my time again I would have swapped and it would have been a lot easier.

Ok at least that hasn't happened to me yet.
In fact I have played four or five siege battles (as the attacker) and I won all of them, but the way units move on walls made me super angry.
I haven't played a siege battle as a defender yet, either I counter-attacked the attacking army before it reched my city, or they were so overwhelmingly superior that I auto-lost it. :D
Defensive siege battles are weird. In general it is worse to defend the walls, you get shoot off them way to easily. I don't know if it was the same in 1 but in 2 I can't heal my undead on the walls so that eliminates one of the key features of the vamps.

@discomute One of the nice things about the Golden Tower settlement is that it is a chokepoint map so you don't have to build a garrison building there. Also once you've conquered most of the Southlands I'd suggest keeping some defensive half stacks around, I like one at Serpent Coast and one at Cuexotl and one at around Scrag Hole(?). I don't know how far north you plan to push but I've had ritual stacks spawn up near the Elven Ruins.

Oh, I thought it was just a bug that caused the spells not to work....
I still haven't fought one defensive siege battle. I like to fight at my terms so I basically use the cities to slow down the enemy. I keep armies reasonably near and once the siege starts I move in with two armies and crush the attackers.

My campaign entered a very interesting and dangerous phase now.
First I pushed back the Norsca and the other dudes from the north out of the Empire.

I joined a combined military force of The Empire and the Dwarves to go and kill that damn Lord of Change that has destroyed half of the Dwarven cities and all the Orcs in the south. We won and Chaos Warriors went extinct.

Then the Empire declared war against the Wood Elves. Being a good ally I joined them in the war of course. I had a very tough fight against three armies of them, but managed to split them. I jumped Durthu's army with two of my own (ok, one and a half) and had enough time to kill him and then attack Orion's force. It worked! I hate to fight Wood Elves though, they are fast and they can shoot, which is bad news for my mostly Skeleton based army. Even Wight Kings almost can't catch up and get shot up. Fortunately I have good buffs and Terrorgheists, those did a great job so I still won.

After a few rounds I had captured some settlements, and so had the Empire. I didn't have the military strength to capture their core cities though.

...then suddenly some small human faction called Tilea declared war against me and sent two armies toward my territory. I reacted, destroying both, capturing one of their two cities and laying siege on their main city. Tow rounds later they begged for peace, which I accepted to not anger the other human factions.

Fortunately the Wood Elves also wanted peace and I accepted that.

Thing is: Now that Chaos isn't such a problem anymore, there is a diplomatic crisis with The Empire, it seems their main selling point for cooperating with me was that I also fought Chaos...
I tried to do something to get a better relationship again, including bribery and fighting their enemies, but it seems they are set on facing me as enemies next. Just a few rounds later they cancelled all our treaties (miltary access, trade, and military cooperation), and so did the Dwarves. That seriously hurt my economy but I am keeping up. I guess it hurt theirs too.

I am preparing for war now. As I am Vampires and everyone hates me anyway I will not wait, but strike first.
I pretty much militarily gave up everything outside of my core territories, and placed eight armies as close to near Empire settlements as possible. Karl Franz' army will be my first target as that is the only really threatening force The Empire has right now. Manfred and Heinrich Kemmler's army are already on their way.... In the round the attack will happen I will also simultaneously destroy one of their other main forces, and take four settlements that don't have walls. That should hurt them a bit. I hope. I kiiinda expect that The Empire and the Dwarves will kick my ass together...

Sounds like your having fun. For Wood Elves I would suggest Dire Wolves, I believe they are the fastest unit in the game and they have a good stat line.

I will deal with the Elves if I survive fighting The Empire, but thanks! :D

Yeah I am having fun, I have around ~30 hours of game time now and I enjoyed most of it even though half of the time I don't understand what is going on... :D

I think what bothers me about playing as the undead is that I suffer from atrition any time I leave my own territory, and the complete lack of ranged units doesn't fit my play style too well. Not much variety there, I might pick another army next time.

But it sure is nice to see hordes of Skeletons, with Terrorgheists circling above their heads and I LOVE to watch cavalry smashing into infantry units. And Mannfred and Heinrich are cool as f***!
