The looming excitement that might be TW warhammer II

I think what bothers me about playing as the undead is that I suffer from atrition any time I leave my own territory, and the complete lack of ranged units doesn't fit my play style too well. Not much variety there, I might pick another army next time.

But it sure is nice to see hordes of Skeletons, with Terrorgheists circling above their heads and I LOVE to watch cavalry smashing into infantry units. And Mannfred and Heinrich are cool as f***!
I'm more of a Vlad man myself, but no doubt that Manny and Evil Gandalf are awesome. I wish we could get Sylvannian state troops in campaign. I mean that is the point of the Vampire counts, they are counts of the Empire. I can't even find a mod for just the basic units like swordsmen, crossbows, etc.

Why not play Tomb Kings. Undead with ranged units. :)

I've heard that those Ushabti Great Bows are amazing.

They are literally super mobile bolt throwers. Even better with the blessed unit which has armor sunder

No the Ushabti RoR has shield breaker, the skeleton archer RoR has armor sunder. And yes Ushabti great bows are ridiculously good.

In Shogun 2 I liked the Chosokabe which basically meant I was extremely heavy on the archers.

I like that Lizardman missiles aren't great, it mixes it up a bit.

Still, I am not an elf fan (Woodies aren't too bad) and I hate Skaven, so if I commit sacrilege and play another race it will be Tomb Kings. Flavour wise they are right up there.

This thread is now at 9% corruption.

The skaven food mechanic is a nightmare to deal with and basically makes their campaigns unplayable for me. After the Lizardmen my favorite faction to play are Empire, Bretonnia, Dark Elves, and Tomb Kings. My least favorite factions to play are Skaven, Chaos, and Wood Elves.

If you want to occupy a settlement, are there any circumstances when it is better to sack than occupy? I figure I shouldn't, but when they wave $4k in front of me it's hard to say no.

I usually do it if the price is really good.
I sacked Altdorf for 14000.
...then occupied it in the same round with my second army. :D

Unfortunately there are no Tomb Kings in part 1 so I cannot do that. But yeah they sound good!

When you get a boosting building like an insect farm for chamo skinks, do the bonuses apply for just that city or recruiting from the province?

Also - does anyone else find it is very difficult to wipe out units? Auto resolve loads get wiped out. In combat, once they break it is a very long process to run them down, and you have to be faster than them. Is there a trick here?

As Vampire Counts I use either the undead wolves or Cavalry to hunt them down. Bats work as well.
But yeah it is hard, quite often they escape with a few guys left.

Meanwhile in the Old World:
Turn 300 and I have destroyed the Empire, technically winning the campaign.
I am continuing the game though. Lots of stuff still to do.
I have peace with the dwarves, for now. They attacked me when I was just fighting the Empire but I managed to smash all six of their armies including the White Dwarf's. After that I destroyed two cities of theirs and besieged another. They sent me 3000 gold and a piece offer, which I ended up accepting to consolidate and not fight wars on three fronts.
Now I am doing Heinrichs special quests and of course preparing to fight another Dwarf war soon. :)

Any bonuses a building provides it will provide to the entire province unless specifically stated otherwise.
As Lizardmen I suggest Skink Skirmisher/Chameleons and Cold/Horned Ones, Terridons with the bolas can also be pretty good. With the range units make sure to toggle them for melee as with just shooting they are constantly playing catch up.

Cheers.

I have a few skirmishers at the moment but they can't keep up against the skaven
I presume they have equal movement or something?

Skinks are faster than most skaven, but with there blowpipes they will poison the rats as they chase. Just make sure to keep track of them as they have a habit of dropping orders.

Oh man dropping orders is annoying! Is that a purposeful thing by TW (i.e. a failed leadership test?) or it is a weird bug?

Meanwhile in the Old World:
My Vampire Counts campaign is basically over.
I am around turn 400, and I have destroyed the Dwarfs after a long war of attrition while fighting beastmen and Norsca and Wintertooth dudes in the North.
Karak Zilfin is the Only Dwarf faction left and they are now vasalls of Orions Wood Elves.

I started an expedition that killed all Norscan and Wintertooth but I must have forgotten some bevause they are still there. My problem is that I just can't stay up there and search around. Anyway, I destroyed everything I could see so now one or two armies can hold the North easily.

The rest of the map is...me. I have every settlement that Vampires can use and I have built every special building and maxed out everything. I am insanely rich. Tech tree is full and I have several achievements including maxed out heroes and income of 20,000.
So yeah technically I could kill the Wood Elves and their vassals but that's it.

Yay!

...so...what next? I bought the Wood Elves DLC (it was on sale, 8€) and started the story campaign as Durthu. Interesting play style and I think I am actually winning.
As PC gaming is pretty much the only thing I can do right now (still sick) I am getting my dose of Warhammer that way. :)

Grats on the win. I've tried to start several Wood Elf campaigns, but I've never been able to bring myself to attack other Wood Elves. So all those campaigns wound up being so boring that I quite and deleted them.

On non TWW news I've finally managed to get a truly successful Mordheim warband going while playing as the vamps. Also Vermintide 2 dropped today, unfortunately I live in Maine and all the snow tanked my internet. Fortunately Mordheim was there to comfort me as it is an offline game.

I started another Kroq Gar campaign a couple nights ago. About 40 turns in and going ok. Finances are tight, but I'm making it. Now I just need more Skaven settlements to sack.
