Feeling pretty honoured. I took 3rd place in painting at the tournament over the weekend :) There were some really cool looking armies out there and I'm pretty chuffed that people liked mine!

I'll get a few pics later on of the army.

Great looking Jungle Swarms. I have 4 swarms like that and I have been wondering how to paint and base them. This gives me some good ideas.

Congrats on the painting award. It is well deserved! :D

Congratulations on the third place, that is a really great achievement! I really like your Razordons. I have been trying to get couple for myself from eBay, but so far without any luck. Would love to be able to paint them. Could we get a side shot from the Razordons? Also, did you make those flowers on the Swarm bases yourself?

    Thanks for the comments guys!
I might be able to get some photos taken of the whole army on friday maybe, otherwise I'll be flat out with my drummer's birthday shindig and another tournament (much closer to home this time!).

Capra, I'll try and get that glowing effect tutorial ready next week some time - will try and use a range of subjects (like skulls, eyes, emanating magic)

Re: The Nexs-Files - [Full Army Pics]

    Thanks man!
Yeah, so I accidentally put some terradons on layby. I'll be building a skink chief to use as an baby quango delivery system, but will magnetise the rider to be swappable for the unit's champion.

I think I may leave them as terradons because there are so many elves around that rippers will be killed before they get to their initiative step.

Also, Rat Ogre Bonebreaker greenstuffing and painting of Malekith. Lots of work ahead, not to mention....

Your army looks really great. It's always pleasant to see a full army compared to just inidividual shots. Besides fully painted armies are great to eat watch on the board.

Unfortunately for me I'm kinda slow lol.

Great looking army. I am slowly getting all my units painted, and I just added more models, so it will be awhile before I have a fully painted army.

Re: The Nexs-Files - [Full Army Pics]

Thanks for the comments guys, unfortunately I don't have the best photography skills so the pics aren't super detailed and I don't have the best lighting..

I'll be starting work on the glowing tutorial and I'll share the work I've done on the bone breaker rat ogre when he's finished. I've also got some saurus characters to make, and a chakax to re-pose into something more dynamic. Stay tuned

Nice full army pics! I think I need to do the same with my lizards (DE too now that I think about it). I'm looking forward to the glowing eyes tutorial, so don't wait too long. ;)

Re: The Nexs-Files - [Full Army Pics]

First up, here is my minor chakax conversion. I've just changed the pose and made some jungle plants front green stuff. I wanted the pose to look more like his army book picture.

    IMAG1440_zpswsudu6q9.jpg
    IMAG1438_zps5opdaolv.jpg
    IMAG1439_zps6srntcle.jpg

Now, the quick tutorial on glowing...

Step one, have the mini ready to go. IE painted. I've used an elf archmage head as the teat subject.
    IMAG1433_zpsltzooouf.jpg

Step two, decide on how bright the glow us going to be and apply residual colour around the area. Remember that in the case of the elf, the eyes will shine light around the eye socket and over the cheek bones - always assess where the light will fall.
    IMAG1434_zpsb1ljvzjo.jpg

Step three, add the light source. Things to remember here are that the brighter the source, the further the light will travel and that you'll need to make the source noticeably brighter than the glow for it to stand out.
    IMAG1435_zps0bad8avb.jpg

Step four, add a doubly watered down mix of a colour between your glow colour and the source colour. I've used it to extend the flow down onto the cheek bones (as it makes sense that's glow would peter out over distance, not just come to an abrupt end).
    IMAG1436_zpsttjesiun.jpg

I hope it's been even a little bit helpful! Let me know what you think!

Edit. Sorry about the spelling and grammar mistakes. Doing this on my phone is painful!

How did you go with it?

I've ALMOST finished Chakax, but I don't want to post any pics until he's finished completely!

Great and simple tutorial, thank you so much for sharing! I will try this with my Necrons once I get a change (i.e. start painting them...). One question, though. When you add the final glaze, do you just add one layer or multiple ones?

Re: The Nexs-Files - [Glowing eyes tutorial]

    That's a really good question!
I think it really depends on the situation. If it's a larger piece or a very detailed piece (like my slann's eyes) then you'll need to do a few layers, start with a very watered down layer of glow colour mixed with with the colour of the object being lit up, then the brighter glaze(s).

Again, it's hard to give an exact formula for it as it is a little more 'to taste' than the smaller pieces :)
Let me know how you go.

I see from your earlier stuff that you're quite good with green stuff; would you be able to give an inexperienced user like myself a few tips? :p

EDIT: Also, where do you acquire your extruded foam?
