An interesting theory. I'd suspect (pure speculation on my part) that they would release Total War: 40k before anything to do with an unknown property like TOW. Maybe even AoS, which has a proven player base.

I believe the next game they are set to release is Total War: Pharaoh. What comes after that... who knows?

    Interesting to say the least.

Strong point, but Warhammer was not around (anymore) for the W:TW to drop. So it might not make that much difference to drop W:TW IV, TOW if TOW is not fully out yet. On the other hand I don't know what the pace of new releases is for TW it might be that TOW is out by that time...

Don't you think that the real money would be in a 40k Total War?

I don't know, they already have a 40K app/game, right? It would not make much sense to release another different one.

Probably a bunch of third rate games. Total War is a AAA game.

Total War is certainly a top-quality game franchise, but its mass ranked battle nature wouldn't fit well with 40K in my view, because where Total War is excellent at simulating battles up to the Napoleonic era, at most mid-late Victorian, 40K is more of a simulation of warfare in WWII and beyond, with looser formations, smaller unit sizes, deadly ranged weapons and more of a focus on vehicles. In order to create an authentic 40K experience CA would have to significantly change the way it handles units and devise new rules for representing vehicle squadrons, in particular aircraft. It's certainly possible to do, but it would take them way out of their comfort zone and I doubt they'd be willing to do that when they can continue to explore areas of history, and perhaps other areas of fantasy too, that are easier to portray realistically with the existing game mechanics they have at their disposal, as they are doing at this time with Pharaoh: Total War, which looks great.

Besides, 40K is already embodied in its own way via the Dawn of War franchise, the first two games of which are extremely popular in the community and seen as the ultimate 40K experience. If any new 40K battle game were to come out I'd more likely bet on Dawn of War IV than 40K Total War.

AoS could go either way, on one hand it's fantasy so could certainly work with gameplay based on Warhammer: Total War, but on the other hand is also on a smaller scale by and large, and there is a Dawn of War-style game, Realms of Ruin, for it currently in the works that seems to be designed to cater to that smaller-scale, fast and furious style of play. If that proves successful, then a Total War version would have to be particularly good to draw players away from it.

I doubt it. I can certainly see GW asking CA to release a TOW DLC for Warhammer III: Total War in the future if TOW is a success as a game (no need to make a brand new game when you can just take Warhammer III and apply a DLC to convert factions and units to fit TOW where necessary), but I severely doubt they'd get them to work on a whole fourth game, based on a version of Warhammer Fantasy that has yet to meet the approval of the player base, while they're still working on the third game.

I'll cite myself from another threa

I've got a ToW news from my own (usually reliable) source.

ToW should be released at the end of this year, and TK will also be given a DRAGON.

If they make Arkhan the Black on a Dragon but not with his chariot I'll be annoyed.

I can see something huge for TK, but going by fluff there's already the Khemric Titan.

Arkhan isn't a proper Tomb King, he's a traitor aligned with Nagash. He should be ported over to Vampire Counts as a Wight King or Necromancer character if they progress TOW's story to bring Vampires back into the setting.

On every level I agree! Was so annoyed when he was in the TK book but other named characters were left out. Other named characters that were actual TK characters and not VC ones! I have his old model, sadly not the chariot, and he had solid rules...I just couldn't run him due to him being a filthy traitor.

I guess it depends on if the rumor means an actual TK Dragon or a TK "dragon" (meaning some kind of centerpiece monster).

Thanks! Despite myself I'm a fluff oriented player. Remember when the guy won a tournament with the folding tower with 100 archers and a caster in the foolish thing? Don't remember but I think Khalida was also involved. The idea was strong and the people I play against were chomping my TK but I just couldn't do it. I do still love using dual Casket but that's me lol!

This one is a classic. When this was first posted a few years ago it inspired me to release a whole slew of TOW vs AoS memes. Some forum members expressed their displeasure towards my creations... it did not have the effect that they had desired. :D
