The Shrine to Lost Armies

Sad Tidings :(

View attachment 50542

I logged into The Round Table of Bretonnia today, which sadly I had been absent for over a month. Sad to learn that the once proud website has finally shut down operations entirely. Good luck and best wishes to Sir @pendrake and the rest of the Round Table staff, I hope the website and its glorious archives eventually find a new home!

You can still look at the Gallery of images, and at the articles. The forums are not currently operating; but they are not gone forever; however & for the moment only staff can view them.

Yep, very sad. But not totally out of the blue.

I honestly want to launch a thousand insults and Pagan curses at the Empire now for daring to still exist despite their aesthetic looking so bad compared that of Bretonnia :rage::punch: but such a display of bad language would not be tolerated on this forum :muted:

Bretonnia's look is fantastic, but honestly i have never been a fan of their lore.

Except the Green Knight. Love it.

When you refer to “look” that’s meaning the models? (Rather than the look of the Forum that has gone dormant.)

Also, which version of the lore did you dislike?
  • There was the early cannon toting, bombard using, heavily gunned Galleons, Bretonnia from the Man O War era.
  • There was the Arthurianish Knights are noble, Damsels are graceful, peasants are sturdy and loyal era.
  • There was the Knights are ruthless, Peasants are filthy, Damsels are spiteful era.
  • There could be another I missed.
There’s not a wrong answer...I’m just curious.

I got into Bretonnia in the "ruthless knights-dirty peasants" era but my original WH rulebook had the Arthurian Knights in the pictures. I was attracted to them mostly because of the bright heraldry.

Being a big fan of the Adventures of Robin Hood with Errol Flynn as a kid, and Ivanhoe/Knights of the Round Table, I had a lot of great inspiration. Loved how the knights looked in neat rows together, and when my brother bought me a box of the knights it was only a matter of time before I was hooked.

I never had a problem with the lore. It definitely wasn't the most "unique" races of the old Warhammer world, but that's why it appealed to me so much I think. And the heraldry. And the not-Robin-Hood. Never did get the green knight though... I could never do the model as much justice as @Itepixcauh just did!!!

Bretonnia was never unique, that wasn't their thing. Bretonnia was created as a treat, a present for the Perry Brothers so they could sculpt what they always liked the most, historical miniatures. That is why in 4th and 5th they are HEAVILY historical and realistic, 6th edition was when the Perry had left and they tried to introduced a bit more Fantasy into the mix.

The thing about Bretonnia is that they looked so beautiful, a well painted Bretonnian army is a thing of beauty but the truth is they were never a popular army despite what most fans would say, it never sold very well (and that is for a company the only measure of popularity that matters)

I got into 5th, the more Arturian period but the truth is I got in love with them in 6th edition.

Also, thanks !

I'll just leave this right here...

Tomb Kings > Bretonnia

Well they were better at getting kicked in the backside by GW that is true.....

:p

All I can say is that they were both horrendously treated in favour of a far cr@pper faction that for some unknown reason sold better (Empire and Vampire Counts) and deserved to be thrown out instead of them.

Those factions had always been the favourites of GW with High Elves. I get it but both Bretonnia and Tomb Kings were far more charming but as I said they never sold well, except once they got discontinued xD

I’m surprised you say High Elves because they never got plastic Swordmasters or Ellyrian Reavers, despite the former being an incredibly popular unit, certainly in my locale. I would have said Dark Elves and Warriors of Chaos were much more popular at GW HQ because they both got two months’ worth of releases when 8th came round where most races got only 1 month of glory, including High Elves.

They did make plastic Swordmasters and Reavers, monopose ok, but still amazing models. My high Elf army is composed almost entirely of island of blood miniatures.

Oh yeah Chaos is of course a big one forgot about them.

I meant they didn’t make proper kits for them - the Island of Blood ones are good but you only get 10 Swordmasters and 5 Reavers in each box, the latter having a full command that you only need one of.

GW solution... just buy more of them! hahaha

The command models could be converted into ordinary troopers, but it would be nuisance.
