So I've tried this before.
When I "grew up" (around 20 years ago) I sold my Realm of Chaos inspired Chaos army along with all of my other toys that I didn't need any more and bought a house etc. I've not really gamed since then until around 2 years ago when I started collecting and paint Orks for 40k. Since then (on and off) I've been buying "bargains" from ebay with the intention of returning to whfb and then leaving them, largely unopened and unused in my storage area.
My model storage area (anywhere I can fit boxes) is now full of dusty boxes of battle for Skull pass, Isle of blood and other acquisitions staring at me reproachfully.
I was seduced again by friends at my local club who were trying to persuade me to give them a break from 40k (I have a death guard and Ork 40k force)
So... I was thinking what I should run for whfb and then I remembered my Lizardman army. Collected in 1996 and sat dusty looking at me on my "should I sell this or keep it" shelf..
So. I've stripped my Saurus Warriors with Spears (including full command x12) My Temple Guard (including full command x 10) and sprayed them this morning ready to paint up again.
I've bought a batallion as I like the new plastic figures and I fancy trying my hand with some cold one cavalry.
I've bartered online and picked up a new stegadon kit and two second hand scar vets and I reckon I've got enough bits to form a 2k list. Maybe not tournament level but certainly good enough for use to learn the system again.
So why lizardmen? Well I loved the look of the army when it was first released and I've got lots of lovely metal special and rare bits already (5 krox, 4 terradons, salamander, 2 stegadons) so I have the bits to add lots of options into the force and all I really need to buy to build a largish army are the cheap things to buy (the odd character and batallion or regiment boxes). This means for a relatively limited outlay I can put out a nice large 2k pt army to learn with and then expand with options to hit tournaments and stuff (should I wish)
I thought I'd come here and I've been lurking for the last few days reading the stickies and whatnot. I thought I'd say hi and post an initial list for feedback
so, Hi, I'm a returning old timer. I started playing with little men with WHFB third edition and have been an avid follower of gaming ever since. I've taken a break whilst I "grew up" bought a house, got married had kids and now that my children are getting to the age where they get excited by this stuff I'm returning. The plan is to build some armies for me and then use them to teach my son and daughter to play and paint when they're a little older if they continue to show an interest.
