Hullo.
Never really seen a conclusive stock standard way of painting tongues. Anyone able to illuminate me please? What base / shade combination is best? Citadel preferably.

I use this on all most every open mouth model.

Base coat with khorne red/black mix, 95/5%

Shade with Carrobourn crimson

Highlight with screamer pink and a final highlight of kislev flesh

I paint the full mouth, tongue, teeth, cheek sides this mix then when you do the teeth leave a thin line of the red showing to represent a gum line.

Worthy of a full tutorial this one. Mouths in general actually. I’ve found little on doing them in my trawls. Maybe one for table ready and one for the full bifta
 
I don't use Citadel colors but I think I can find the equivalents...

I use a dark red, (like Khorne Red), then shade red (Carroburg Crimson), and if it is a big tongue I might highlight it by drybrushing it with a bright red, (such as Wild Rider Red).

If I want it to be a bit more purple I use a purple shade (Druchii Violet) and carefully highlight with purple (Genestealer Purple) or pink (Emperor's Children).

I have quite a few in various armies to do so nice to have a bit of variety. Thank you. (Hey, you’re close to 10k likes @Aginor ...I’m going to try and place the 10k one)
