More pics of the beetle drones versus Samurai Jack: They could use a bit more painting work done but they look good as they are right now! Next Samurai Jack villain is fully converted up out of one of the leftover yetis my brother put together: He is going to be Monkar, one of the bounty hunters sent to kill Samurai Jack. The model basically looks like a yeti with three eyes and extendable hand-claws/fingers. He lasted all of 5 minutes against him before getting blown up... that being said he was in every title scroll of the first four seasons! Spoiler: monkar conversion pics
I am thinking maybe Scaramouche from season 5 or the aku-sisters, but I need to get the models for the conversions first. I did paint up these Armored Orcs though; my brother bought them for a Catan project and let me paint the remaining plastic models. Had fun splicing these pictures together
Scaramouche would be a tough conversion, but would make for a fantastic model. The Daughters of Aku are great, can't wait to see you make them!
Thanks! I was inspired by these beautiful orcs. I also experimented with washes to make them nice and dirty looking. I didn't want to do the scheme that was on the box, they looked like they were wearing yellow footie pajamas.
Finished the first crop of my Alien Scum. Feathery-Gecko heads: The purple-headed goonies: Latest xenos band on the scene: the Blue-Alien Group: The Beastman mutants: Two more xenos and an alien sympathizer: I had a lot of fun making these guys. They are all from Maelstrom's Edge Broken Infantry kit, with some cast bits, plus some leftover Imperial Guard and Mechanicus bits thrown in. I also enjoyed making a small scenic backdrop as my first bit of futuristic terrain! The backdrop is nice and dramatic, but I need to work on proper lighting of the pictures I take next time. Most of these pics turned out too bright for the "mood" I was going for. Samurai Jack needs his paint stripped and to be given a new paintjob!
Working on some futuristic scatter terrain. The ruined lander is from the old Battle for Maccrage set that I have had lying around for years and just now getting to paint it up! Spoiler: scatter terrain Simultaneoulsy while painting up this scatter terrain I also finished another project! More pics
Started these guys in November, now they are done! Bandits and Brigands, fallen Samurai from Warlord Games' Test of Honour expansion. Many pictures of bandit samurai incoming. Spoiler: Bandit samurai Better pic of the mustache bandit: The big bad himself, Oni No Kojiro, leader of the bandits: Big hats! Facing off against arquebusiers of the Ishida clan: Final pic, with their multi-bases. The bandits are all magnetized so they could also hop on one of my square warlord bases too.
Working on more of my ashigaru for the Ii clan: Drummer is built and glued to his base: Two standard bearers, from Perry miniatures: And the two samurai commanders, still need a bit of work left.
Great work, keep it coming! I’ve been thinking again about a future Celtic army (or several, with several different tribes painted similar to you having done several Japanese clans) and have been looking for a historical Skirmish game to use them in alongside Hail Caesar as a mass battle game, and have found Broken Legions, another Osprey game: Written by a former White Dwarf editor no less, Broken Legions looks to have potential for both a historical and fantasy Skirmish game. Of course, with so many other hobby projects going on, it’s all very much only planned out in my mind at the moment. So much to do and so little time to do it in...
I will have to look into this one, haven't heard of Broken Legions before. "keep up with" might be too strong a phrase... "gets distracted" works too Also stripped the paint off of samurai jack this weekend. Spoiler: Samurai Jack's journey so far After some scrubbing following soaking in pine sol for a full day: Not perfect, some of the primer didn't come out of the deepest recesses. New coat of black and two magnetized bases later: He is not repainted yet, but here is what he looked like compared to one of the bandits I painted recently: Huge difference in a short time (thanks to washes, advice from youtube, and this forum!)
The ranks of the ashigaru are complete for this next phase of my Sekigahara project: Work continues on Samurai Jack as well. Not sure if I should paint his belt green? I will probably just painted it grey like the show. Aaaand painted up the base for Monkar, a Samurai-Jack Bounty Hunter, so now he blends in onto the futuristic background setting:
Painted up and photographed my Samurai Commanders! Ii Naomasa with his two new standard bearers: Spoiler: Ii Naomasa Ukita Hideie: Spoiler: Ukita Hideie Ukita Hideie along with a compliment of previously-painted samurai retainers: Both commanders together:
I really love how you’re bringing to life the rivalries between these various Samurai clans. I really want to do similar with the Celtic tribes of Britain at some point - certainly with the current scenario I’ve been thinking of (Catuvellauni and Cantiaci vs Atrebates and allies) there are a number of characters I could model: Cunobelinos, king of the Catuvellauni Caratacus, heir of the Catuvellauni tribe Adminius, son of Cunobelinos and king of the Cantiaci Verica, king of the Atrebates
