Thanks for the compliments! Got some full pictures of the whole army to show off: The two rival clans, Ukita (Blue) and Ii (Red) Clans: Spoiler Full Army Spoiler
I like the idea! You should totally go for it, have you thought about just plunging in and buying some? I liked the idea of the Roman Legion Invasion of Britain (Warlord Games Hail Caesar); those seem pretty good. Also found these two blogs with great pics: 1000 Foot General and The Madhouse. I need to start doing more Japanese terrain, just using my jungle stuff right now. I did just purchase some cherry blossom supplies: Also did up three bases right before the cherry blossom stuff showed up, need to start using this stuff in the next project.
I would certainly love to, but I have a crazy amount of other different projects going on at the moment, and with University work taking up all my current time I haven’t been able to do much for a long while. I’ve still got my Saurus Warriors to finish and then I’ve got: 16 High Elf Spearmen (one of the last boxes ever made) 10 Wood Elf Eternal Guard I’m going to also use as High Elves A Dragonfate Dais 10 Black Orcs 5 Stormboyz 10 Ironbreakers 6 Knights of Rivendell All those really old Night Goblins that I bought back in September And a load of Airfix kits I haven’t made yet So you can see I’ve got a lot of stuff to keep me going already, but when this University business is over I’m certainly thinking of going to some Wargames Conventions in locations not that far from me. Hopefully Warlord and Victrix might be there with some of their stuff that I might be able to buy. Certainly that Roman Invasion of Britain set is excellent value, with over 120(!) figures and a couple of really nice commander minis exclusive to the box and a Hail Caesar rulebook - essentially the Battle for Skull Pass of Hail Caesar - and would be a great place to start getting the tribes ready for Battle once I’ve finished working on my Warhammer forces. I was looking into getting some of these bases to use the Celts in games of Broken Legions, as they would be great for, for example, grouping a chieftain with his finest warriors!
Samurai Jack is (re)done! He's got two new bases and ready to get back to the past: Fun to paint, though he looks a bit funky with his new eyebrows Jungle/forest basing: Samurai Jack surrounded by bandits! Spoiler: pics Samurai Jack versus the forces of the Ii Clan: And with his Necromunda base: Taking on alien bounty hunters: Spoiler
Planning to make a battle board eventually, so I am making a small test board out of foam: The small metal disks are glued under the board, they will be for small cherry trees that will be magnetized. After the sand has been applied:
Made up a test tree: Present status of the board: ...along with the tree with new cherry blossom foilage!
Played two epic games of Civ 5 on my computer yesterday as Brazil and almost got beat by the computer, but won them both on an exciting razors edge! Back to the hobby table today and painted up a single block of Otani Clan ashigaru: Spoiler: Otani Ashigaru Ukita, Otani, and Ishida Clans:
Next block of four ashigaru are done, from the Konishi Clan: Spoiler: Konishi pics Newly painted Otani and Konishi clan ashigaru, along with the mounted Konishi samurai I painted a while ago: The Western Army colors are really coming together! Spoiler: next samurai army WIP Next up, ashigaru from the Kobayakawa clan, that have been lanquishing on my painting rack unpainted for several months.
That is a great question, I don't think I ever actually counted. I did do a layout of what I wanted the entire army to look like in the end HERE, and after doing some math... … I would need a total of a whopping total of 242 bases to complete this setup. Each base will have x4 models on it, so: 242 x 4 = 968 models This excludes characters of course, and cavalry is actually counted as two models here (horse + rider). After looking at my painted collection so far, I have 23 bases completely painted up, which brings me to a resounding: 23 x 4 = 92 models painted as of 11FEB19 What is that, only a tenth of the way there? Safe to say I am labelling this one a long term project
That’s a lot of Samurai, Ashigaru and other Medieval Japanese stuff to make and paint. I pray to Cernunnos for your wallet I don’t think I’d have enough room for that many Celts - given how much room my existing Warhammer stuff already takes up!
Quite true, but I am saving some money by using nearly every set of arms possible. You know how almost every plastic miniature set has a ton of extra arms that you can't ever use because you don't have enough bodies? By casting some extra ashigaru/samurai torsos I was able to make my first Test of Honour box set stretch out from its original 35 models to almost 60, and am doing the same for some extra ashigaru spear and missle trooper boxes. Aaand warlord games also does that giant samurai army starter box which I got for a cool $75 compared to Warlod's listed price of $120. That box by itself has straight up 100 infantry, which I hope to more than double if I can manage it! Realistically speaking, I will only ever make about half of the proposed army, as the whole thing will probably take too long
