Been working on some test ashigaru from the Tokugawa clan Those banners are hard to do and nowhere near as good as the examples I was trying to copy from. Then again I haven't gotten around to purchasing transfers... Spoiler The unit musicians: First block of infantry First two blocks of ashigaru are done. I have four more blocks of pikemen in the chute, along with two blocks of archers!
Thanks! Banners are not my friend right now. Also got some single-based samurai on the painting table too:
A few more updates today, starting with the three samurai being complete: Two belong to the Tokugawa clan while the third has pledged to Ishida. Also finished two more blocks of Tokugawa Ashigaru: Brings the Tokugawa up to four blocks, finally got a full unit going for them! Spoiler And I went ahead and fixed the banners for Tokugawa's personal retainers, to include an attempt at his three-spade-leaf heraldry:
Two more samurai almost complete, mostly just need to do the mon for the back banners for a few more ashigaru as well! Also noticed that Test of Honour (2) had a new set of Sohei warrior monks out. Spoiler: Test of Honour 2 Sohei Bundle
The next group of ashigaru and samurai are complete! Here are the two blocks of Tokugawa archers and two more samurai (one Tokugawa and one Ishida).'' The six blocks of Tokugawa pike ashigaru are also complete: Not bad, took about a month to finish this unit which is still way too long ... kept getting distracted with other happy business at home Next up I am going to try and finish my small samurai board, starting with these cherry trees. Spoiler: moar pics The Tokugawa archers: Pikemen and company: Went ahead and painted the clan mons on the bottom of the samurai general/heroes multibases so I could tell them apart. Probably should have painted them black again one more time before I did so but I was rushing...
The board is taking shape! Painted up and the bits of fallen leaves and grass are added. Now on to some buildings. Decided I am going to redo the building I originally made for this board. I used some cardboard for the room and foam for the rest.
Built two more buildings to go along with the first one, all with the cardboard roofs. And finally built that bridge and a small Japanese arch, which I relearned is called a torii. Spoiler: WIP painting And two more pics at various stages of painting progress:
The samurai board is done! Spoiler: also new flock containers Went ahead and got a handy $1 container to put my flock collection inside.
Now that the board itself is complete, I went ahead and added foilage to all of my "recent" completed samurai and ashigaru bases: I used a little bit of the cherry tree blossoms for these guys this time too, adds a bit more color to the bases than my usual jungle-basing method. I am pleased with how the hero multi bases and the individual samurai look too! Tokugawa was the only one who didn't need any flock... here he is with Samurai Jack!
Finished the last samurai on foot that was sitting on my to-paint bench: He also shares the Ishida Clan colors. All of my Test of Honour models I assembled ages ago are now painted, based, and complete!
Thanks! Time for some pictures to show off the samurai board. Samurai! Also here is a small group shot of the samurai terrain buildings so far!
And some good pictures of progress on the samurai clans. Ishida Clan forces: Ishida Mitsunari, leader of the Eastern Army at Sekigahara: Ii Clan forces: Ii Naomasa, general of Tokugawa Ieyasu, and bannermen: Kobayakawa forces: Honda Tadakatsu, general of Tokugawa Ieyasu, and bannermen: Forces of Tokugawa Ieyasu: Tokugawa Ieyasu, commander of the Western Army at Sekigahara, and his loyal retainers:
Next on the painting table: Orks! ...and before I start my burnas and lootas, I rebased my old Snakebites Lootas onto bigger bases. I originally based them on the bases that came in the AOS box, but the Ork Kill Team box had bigger bases inside. Easy swap.
My workstation has now been taken over by the orks. Also have some terrain in the mix from a few days ago: Burnas are getting done fastest, got their basecoats done.
Whoa, that's quite the transition from Samurai to Orks! And quite a lot of them Looking forward to see this new project of yours!
Thanks! Working on a lot of projects that I have left unfinished at the moment, and the Orks are just the next in a long waiting list! Burna Boyz are complete, with their compatriot Lootas well on the way: I definitely went heavy on the clashing colors for this batch. As a side note, words cannot express how much fun I have when I paint these tiny little gas cannisters on the sides of ork weapons . I am seriously considering buying another box of these guys just so I can paint more of these tiny little details, it was so much fun! Lootas should be next! Edit: also finally updated my thread index on the first post
