My Black Templar Librarian assigned to the Deathwatch is complete!

Epistolary Benedictus, Chief Librarian of Watch Fortress Sentinel IX

warden20210828_deathwatch_black templar librarian_01.jpg

Super happy with how this guy turned out. Makes me think old-luke-skywalker-in-power-armor look. And I am happy with how the eyes and hand glows look.

His heraldry is painted on:

warden20210828_deathwatch_black templar librarian_06.jpg

Humanity is slowly evolving into a fully psychic race. Most psykers are easily identified and marked by the Imperium for training, sacrifice, or extermination. But for every psyker that is exposed, many more go undetected for their entire lives. Some are only discovered well into adulthood, with their powers manifesting violently during a time of great stress or danger, often with catastrophic consequences for those around them.

Such was the case with Brother Benedictus.

The Templar known as Benedictus had served for over half a century as a sword-brother in his Marshal’s household. One fateful day, the crusade found itself outmatched and outgunned by a numerically superior xenos force. The unstoppable tide of the aliens had destroyed nearly the entire assault force, with only the Marshal and his beleaguered honor guard remaining. In their moment of defeat, their salvation manifested in the form of Brother Benedictus’ latent psychic potential, unleashing a shockwave of thunder, lightning, and raw warp energy cascading through his limbs to rain destruction on their alien enemies. When the tempest abated, the tide of the battle had shifted with hundreds of the enemy completely incinerated, and hundreds more in full retreat.

Overwhelmed with shock, Brother Benedictus fell to his knees, tears flowing with shame and begging the Emperor’s forgiveness for what he had done. The other sword-brothers, who only moments before had fought back-to-back with him, rounded on their comrade in horror. With weapons drawn, they fully prepared to carry out the Emperor’s justice and execute the exposed witch. Only the command of the Marshal stayed their blades…

In the present day, Epistolary Benedictus still maintains his exile in the Long Vigil. Prior to his awakening he was already a close-combatant without peer. He was further trained in the arts of warpcraft and of the psyker by the librarius of a steadfast brother-chapter. For centuries he has studied, fought, and rose through the ranks of the Deathwatch to become the Chief Epistlatory of Watch Fortress Sentinnel IX. Though still as shameful of his heretical powers as the day they first manifested, he chooses to use his unholy gift as a means to defend the Imperium and smite the xenos wherever they may be found.

Wow, awesome job man!

Finished up my next marine, Brother Ulysses of the Howling Griffons:

warden20210918_deathwatch howling griffons 01.jpg

Veteran of the Tyrannic Wars, Brother Ulysses bears cybernetic implants due to his extensive campaigns.

Howling Griffons' Heraldry:

Still working on the others, but went ahead and assembled some characters too!
Bog-standard Techmarine right out of the box:

Chaplain made from a Stormcast body and reiver head:

Need to do another attempt at making the ribcage.

And a captain with arms magnetized for all the options!

I like this one a lot, painted very good.
I love the clean quarters on the shield and shoulder patch:artist:
Also the weathering on the 'shoes' and legs is done very well.

Looking forward to seeing those other dudes, painted.
Already looking like a lot of fun conversions.

Grrr, Imrahil

Thanks! I got two more painted up last night too: Brother Atticus of the Scythes of the Emperor, along with Brother Eustace of the Imperial Fists!

warden20210921_deathwatch emperor's scythe and imperial fist 01.jpg

Brother Atticus is another Tyrannic War veteran, and has brought his grenade launcher strapped to his long-range bolt rifle

Scythes of the Emperor heraldry:

Next up is the Imperial Fist Brother Eustace, coming to battle with a storm shield:

With his heraldry:

Backpack scroll:

warden20210921_deathwatch imperial fist 04.jpg

Now I have two intercessors equipped with storm shields, easy sub-ins for kill team mace wielders!

Great work on those as well.

I love the possibility to field brother Eustace with a mace. Did you scratch build that one or is it from another model/range?

Grrr, Imrahil

Thanks, its a scratch build from a leftover plasma rifle and some wire/plastic card.

New Intercessor Sergeant is complete: Brother Sergeant Ah'kin of the Valedictors, Orator Third Class:

warden20210924_deathwatch valedictor 01.jpg

“We of the [number redacted] recognize it is our lot to be forgotten. Since before the days of the Heresy we traversed the void beyond the Emperor’s light. None living know of our most glorious victories nor our harrowing defeats. This is as it should be; for the concealed knowledge of our history is but a small price to pay for the continued survival of humanity.” –Chapter Master [name redacted] of the Valedictors.

Upon this data fragment’s discovery, the archivist servitor was subject to mind-wipe and deactivation, and the entire repository world of Secretarot XII underwent Exterminatus for the gross violation of Damnatio Memoriae.

warden20210924_deathwatch valedictor 02.jpg

warden20210924_deathwatch valedictor 03.jpg

Sergeant Ah'kin comes to us with both arms maximized, able to switch out his totally-no-xenos-tech power sword with a plasma pistol and rock double pistols, or can go full close combat and masquerade as a blackshield for battles of kill team!

warden20210924_deathwatch valedictor 05 plasma.jpg

warden20210924_deathwatch valedictor 07 blackshield.jpg

Keen-eyed viewers who know my love of Mayan history will note his name is decidedly Mayan in origin.

“Ah’kin” was the title of Mayan priests in pre-Columbian times, who were in charge of officiating ceremonies, sacrifices, as well as other duties such as specializing in maintaining the calendar system, teaching, healing, advising, or divination. Literal translation is “He of the Sun.”

Valedictors chapter heraldry:

warden20210924_deathwatch valedictor 10 heraldry.jpg

“We are the Valedictors, the Emperor’s Executioners, here to administer your last goodbye. Say farewell to your existence, for we shall be the last living beings you will ever see.” –paraphrased from Scribe-Adept 1d4chan

Thanks! Got the two last hellblasters done so now my second Fortis Kill-Team is complete:

warden20211001_rainbow warrior and iron hand 01.jpg

Brother Azurion of the Rainbow Warriors, who sadly has his weapon covering up his helmet :meh:

warden20211001_rainbow warrior 04.jpg

Rainbow Warrior heraldry. I imagine these guys are leftovers from the shattered/traitor legions after the Horus Heresy who were pulled together under a single banner, uniting warriors of gene-seed from throughout the galaxy. Similiar in effect to the Rainbow Division from WWII.

warden20211001_rainbow warrior 03.jpg

Brother Pollux of the Iron Hands:

warden20211001_iron hands 01.jpg

His face color scheme was inspired by the Borg, however he ended up looking a lot more like President Eisenhower than I would have expected :wideyed:

warden20211001_iron hands 04.jpg

Iron Hands heraldry:

warden20211001_iron hands 09.jpg

And a devotion to Forgeworld Ryza on his plasma power-pack:

warden20211001_iron hands 06.jpg

Do note of course he has defeated at least one necron in his travels with the xeno-hunting Deathwatch :dead:

Kill Team Ah'kin, Fortis Kill Team of the 4th Company, Watch Fortress Sentinel IX:

warden20211002_kill team ah'kin_01.jpg

Chapter heraldries:

warden20211002_kill team ah'kin_02 heraldry.jpg
  • Bottom row- Valedictors, Angels of Vengeance, Howling Griffons, Scythes of the Emperor, Imperial Fists
  • Top Row- Flesh Eaters, Space Wolves/Wild Wolves, Mortifactors, Rainbow Warriors, Iron Hands
Here is the sergeant and the intercessors with their stalker bolt-rifle variants (fewer shots, longer range, better armor penetration):

warden20211002_kill team ah'kin_04 intercessors.jpg

...followed by the heavy-weapon toting plasma gunners (also with the long range/high damage variant):

warden20211002_kill team ah'kin_03 hellblasters.jpg

Still having fun experimenting with different skin tones!

warden20211002_kill team ah'kin_05 skin tones.jpg

Also while I was putting stuff away I went ahead and took a picture with a marine I painted up ages ago along with one of the new marines... not only has GW's scale gone up but my painting quality has (slightly) improved too!

Great work again, the forces shape up really nice.

I love the different hues of skin color ;)

Next two Deathwatch space marines are finished, some heavy-armored Aggressors!

warden20211005_deathwatch_aggressor aurora talons and carmine blades 1.jpg

Brother Apolidus of the Carmine Blades:

warden20211005_deathwatch_aggressor carmine blades 08.jpg

His heraldry is half-transfer and half-painted-on-white-blood-drops:

warden20211005_deathwatch_aggressor carmine blades 04.jpg

Brother-Sergeant Achillaad of the Aurora Talons:

warden20211005_deathwatch_aggressor aurora talons 01.jpg
The Aurora Talons hail from a fleet of submersible fortress-monasteries on the ice moon of Kelvin. These little-known Iron Hands successors hold a great deal of ancient equipment dating back to the days of the Heresy, and are known to place their battle-brothers in cryo-sleep during long months of space travel or in the brief respite between campaigns.

Better view of his chapter symbol and Mr-Freeze vibes:

warden20211005_deathwatch_aggressor aurora talons 05.jpg

And all three of my Aggressors together as a group, including the previously-posted Brother Luzorian of the Dark Angels Deathwing company. Looking forward to eventually constructing a full Indomitor kill-team
