Hey, 6th 40K was fine... it was 7th Edition that was the beginning of the end when they introduced the BS that is Lords of War and started bringing Primarchs back, as well as allowing the balance to become a particular trainwreck

To be honest they've become pretty expert at that over the years (except for TOW which has been improved significantly with the latest FAQ... though I certainly hope they don't start thinking of a NeW eDItiOn for a long time, judging by what they're trying to do with this new Horus Heresy - but then if they do try the similar garbage with TOW I'll just stick with this current Edition).

 

You also have to remember that many of the first Horus Heresy players are legacy CSM players who got a lacklustre codex in 6th and jumped ship when they realized that HH did them better justice.
