To be honest though it does make sense as far as 40K Admech already has a sizeable army, whereas 30K Mechanicum didn't (at least in plastic). Why bloat out a faction with arguably too much new stuff when you can get started in making it's 30K predecessor more accessible in plastic?

However with 40K being a much more open-ended setting there is always room for expansion of a 40K range, while Horus Heresy, being a deliberately closed-in setting with no playable Xenos races, is fast approaching the limit to what GW can release for it. I'll be most amused to see what GW does with it then - whether it:
  • Finally gives in and starts adding Xenos races (most unlikely but one can dream)
  • Stops releasing anything for it (at least in 28mm scale, there's still more release opportunities for Legions Imperialis) and sits by and watches while it slowly dies (the most amusing option, at least for me)
  • Decides to call 'New Edition Time!' and releases a new Edition needlessly in a desperate attempt to try and get more money out of it (the most likely option).

Because playing current-edition vanilla 40k - let alone the Space Skaven faction that's supposedly not supposed to be played that way - is bad, and people who do so should feel bad?

Besides, it's not just the Mechanicum that get a lot of benefit out of those particular kits coming to plastic either - they can be taken as part of a Space Marine or Solar Auxilia army in HH without needing to take an allied detachment. Granted, knowing you can do that requires actually getting into the game itself and not casually browsing the store.
