8th Ed. What to get first!?

So guys tomorrow I'm off to gw to grab afew items to start my new lizardmen army! And I want to grab things so I hav a good base to start on and I can move into games as soon as possible.

So I hav decided that the battalion box is a must simply cause its great value for $$ although I read th at the Saurus cav are overpriced and well crap (correct me if I'm wrong here or any input on the subject) and another grp of core units I'm leaning towards more Saurus warriors, but I also no at skinks are very strong in game so I'm tossing and turning on that, and to top int off an old blood, no ino ill want a priest I believe ASAP so ill pros grab that in a week or 2 just to split the spending abit haha.

So my question is what's ur options on this starting? How would you change it or alter int for the better, and keep in mind I don't wanna be blowing a heap of $$$ straight up haha.

The battalion is definitely the best place to start. If it were me, I would probably grab a second battalion. Depspite not really needing the Cold One Riders (though that may change with the new book that is rumored to be coming later this year), the rest of the kit is worth it. From there, I would add a Slann, Skink Priest and Old-Bloood (or two as they make good non-BSB Scar-Vets), though not necessarily in that order. After that I'd add a couple of slamanders.


Edit: lets see if I can make this a little more intelligible: you might want to start with a single battalion, Old-Blood and Skink Priest/Slann (depending on how many points your initial games will be). Then add a second battalion. You'll want the saurus and skinks no matter how you look at it and the second set of Temple Guard will make a proper Slann guard possible. The CoR may not be the best investment, but they may turn out to be more usable when we get an 8th ed. book (I hope so as I have several units of them collecting dust). From there, get which ever magic user you didn't pick up before (if any) then add salamanders.

In summary:

1) Battalion
2) Slann or Skink Priest
3) Old-Blood
4) Battalion (yep, a second is useful)
5) Salamanders
6) Chameleon Skinks
7) Whatever you want.

If money is tight, shop on ebay instead of at a GW store.

If money is tight, do not waste it on Saurus or skink character models. Take rank-and-file models and convert or paint them differently instead.
Similarly you don't need to ever buy chameleon skink models - use regular skinks painted differently.

If you 1) like TG, 2) trust the next army book will arrive sometime this year and 3) new army book will make Saurus Cavalry better, buying TWO battalions now is absolutely the way to go.
But if you don't agree with all three of those statements, I would not buy two battalions. Go for boxes of Saurus and skinks instead. Maybe buy one battalion and then boxes of Saurus and skinks.

Especially once you have 10 TG, you can somewhat get away with filling out the unit with regular Saurus models after a little extra work.

Ok great info comin in haha and yer I intend to buy off ebay at a later date, and yer good point it's worth the $$ for the 2 battalions but I'd grab the 2nd at a later date or go all out and get to battalions, think that would be a best but id cry with all the painting ahahahaha, so if i grab 1 battalion and a skink priest, some paints id hav roughly 50 ish to trow around maby invest in some ebay stuff with that.. hmmm so many ideas, and yep agreed I'm hoping that the new AB will improve them, hmmm so I'm thinking a 1k are list... Any wanna grow a good all round list at me, ino this is the wrong forum but still lol.
