Poll: What do you think about the new Age of Sigmar models?

I'm indifferent. The sculpts are not bad, there's lots of detail and mixing of different time-periods, which is fun. The pictures are not great, so hard to say more. But I'm not the sort that just wantonly buys a box of pretties of an army that I don't collect. As long as the model aesthetics stay inside the Sigmarites army, then I don't really mind them. As it has been said, these seem to be aimed to cause Space Marine boners or wet panties in 40k players, and that way lower the threshold to buy a box for those new to the Fantasy. I'm fine with that.

• But they're not BAD, apart from the Chaos models; I would not want to buy those: those are everything I detest about the style Chaos models have been trending toward for years;

• Warhammer has devolved a great deal prior to the current 8th edition;

I was in GW Manchester at the weekend and got talking to one of the guys and we got onto Lizardmen and he said they had been working on a new window display and were told to include every faction, I asked including Lizardmen, answer "yep there not getting killed off".

That's in line with the rumours, no one is getting killed off... but we may not receive any more support.

They are not Lizardmen so to me they are not interesting.

Can't really make up my mind yet. Maybe it's the paintjob or just the thought of that the game which I've loved playing so much has come to an end (sort of) but I don't really like them. There's just something that I cannot really put my finger on what makes them less appealing.

But maybe in time and with better pictures my mind will change.

That was me. But they do have SpaceMarine-itis. Was not trying to say otherwise. I think it is the "purity seals, pointless tabards and cloaky bits" PLUS the huge redonkulous shoulder pads AND the way all myriad elements were mixed together.

Considering how heavily inspired Space Marine design is from medieval knights, it was going to be hard to create WFB knights inspired by a same time period not to have some similarities to 40k models. Where that excuse breaks down is the shoulder pads. Really, GW?

Maybe the shoulder pads will be separate pieces ... just don't glue them on.

What armies do you have apart from Lizardmen?

I do own a bucket load of dark elves, somewhere around 5000 points of beastmen and I used to have a dwarven army. I sold the dwarfs though as they were boring to play.

So yeah, to answer the question, I don't own anything with big armour.

It is a simpler game than Warhammer 8th edition. The models are interchangeable and Mantic in general is cheaper than GW stuff. They are releasing new rules in a month or two as well as rules for multiple armies including Lizardmen.

With that said, I'm going to bet Mantic will be a winner since they have confirmed that they will create new rules for a "lizardmen" faction with continued support while evaluating our feedback. GW seems to be leaning to the Sisters Of Battle method of dealing with out race, i.e. release some rules every so often but no models.

Mantic will only be the winner if people by their Lizardmen models. If people use Mantic's rules but buy GW's Lizardmen (that's right I said Lizardmen... not Seraphon ), then GW still ends up being the winner.

Ouch. The Age of Sigmar box set price tag, though. $250. I remember I got Island of Blood for around $90.

I thought they were trying to make it easier for new people to get into the game?
