Ronaldo only has a higher total because he has played more games. Messi's goals per game is superior to Ronaldo's, which is why Messi's goal tally is higher at any given age. Ronaldo holds the record in the later years only because Messi is younger and has not played at those ages.

Funny enough, if you discount the penalty goals each player has scored, Messi has scored more goals despite playing in 167 fewer games.

If a person has even rudimentary statistical literacy, they'll be able to see that Messi is the superior goal scorer of the two.

Argentina can't be beat in this regard. A more interesting question, would R9 be a better inclusion for Brazil over Ronaldinho?


And, what country could put forth the next best pair after Argentina and Brazil?
