Contest April-May 2016 Short Story Contest

You got about forty-four hours left to submit a draft, and I try to set a hard deadline.

Then again, @Y'ttar Scaletail once gave me a few extra hours to get a piece in for the U-E contest, so I'm willing to return the favor. And I can't show favoritism to a Skaven. If anyone needs a bit more time to finish a last minute entry, let me know with a private message. But it'd be best to get to me before midnight US Central time which is 43.5 hours from now. If no one gives me a private message asking for an extension,

I'm overdue to hit the hay. Looking forward to releasing all the submissions I got. 12 excellent pieces, but we could also make it 13 or 14.

But all that above is to say, I doubt I can finish either of them in two days.

Clearly this is a challenge set to you by the Old Ones. Perhaps make it a short-short story? Try and push for <1000 or <500 words.

As for your straight-arrow hero, perhaps think on what it would take to break the arrow. Everything has its threshold - I believe a Chaemleon Skink's breaking threshold is Ld. 6...

I get the feeling Scalenex is eagerly anticipating @Y'ttar Scaletail 's contribution... :p

Just write stories and post them @pendrake - there is no forum rule against non-competition stories!

Just don't forget the ideas or we are all losers. Not just the filthy rat.

Heheh...I may have had a bit of a rewrite after I wasn't happy about a character in my piece and changed them for another. Gotta smooth things over, though still a bit unsure if the replacement will fix it enough.

I will likely post up the alternative character's parts after the competition. :P

12 or more entries?
I smell 4 preferences for each voter... :)

A silly doubt occurred to me, about the incoming votations...

Up 'til now, I was firmly convinced that would be inappropriate for me, as author, to vote for myself. After all, it's lustrian readers that tell what stories are good.... right?

The silly doubt is: it's not that it will be like an Election Day, when you are supposed to vote for yourself?

Ha noone would be able to tell, but voting for oneself would be considered dishonorable. Let's not sully the reputation of the contest just yet

Aye, I as a rule never vote for myself in anything. Especially given how fantastic entries often are, t'is not about the winning it's about appreciating the fine work others have come up with.

However, if you think your piece is the best there is nothing stopping you from voting for it.

Yeah, but if you win by 1 vote and your opponent didn't vote for themselves...

Ah, i'm glad that my first convinction was the right one! Tnx for confirming it.

...of course, if this was a contest on skaven's forum, the "honorable" part would be different. :p

My vote can be bought just saying ;) (No really it can...bought by the words of a famed author the witty wordsmiths or the prominent poets) buy my votes with your stories folks not long now :D

Hi, finished my story today (same day I started, new record for me), but I'm not sure how to private message. I don't want to have gone to the trouble of writing a story (and missing out on Blackadder and chatting with my sister) and not get to enter the competition. Can anyone give the new kid a hand?

I believe you just start a conversation (click on inbox or the user in question) with Scalenex and paste him the story. Also kudos for finishing in so quick a time! :)
