Blog Ndege's painting and conversion lab - Nuff said!

It was a process of learning... Used to do the basing with the models attached before... Found that it looks like they are sinking into the ground... Now is the first time I really do the bases separately...

And I tried to paint a cloak...

Used the quick tip technique from miniwargaming... For leather...

 

dude i love all your work with the lizardmen, i ike how your making them your own and that leather worrk is really nice ill have to look it up. My leather has been a bit to dark nice

Thought I'd try something new...

 

So... A small general overview of what I'm up to...

All WIP guards in one picture!
And the second unit's alpha guardian...



The unit colour will be black... Skin colour green...

Tried both paints on different occasions... Dry brushing works quite well... Citadel paints seem to be of thicker consistence so for me easier to handle...
I like the drop bottle! Makes it much easier to mix paints and water them down correctly....
Covering is as expected more like a layer than like a base colour... Somewhere in between maybe but probably depending on the colour...

As you can see I got a little lazy during the lesson as I didn't do the "lawn dots" on the last two plans...
When I'm home I'll upload the promised pictures of the paint testing... Just to say something topic related in this post!

 

So here we go! Got a little late cause of my mum spontaneously involving us to the Chinese restaurant around the corner...
So... Here you can see one layer of the light grey paint mix 1:1 with water... Not bad for such a bright colour on a black undercoat...

Don't know on which picture you see it better... One is with the other is without flashlight...
Here you see two layers of ultramarine blue mixed 1:1 with lahmian medium on a dark grey undercoat... The boobs... Ahm... boots are still grey... (sorry flat joke!)


So I'm definitely satisfied with the quality of covering... As the "new" ones are also cheaper than GW and you save alot of paint due to the drop bottle...Think I'm gonna change my dealer... Paint dealer... To be specific...

 

They look good! I always did like their primer I will have to give the paint a try.

 

My first attempt at something like wet blending... Went ok on the front...

And not so ok on the back...

Will take a closer look tomorrow, when the final overall glaze is completely dried...
Any tips, comments or (hopefully constructive ) critics anybody? Could be helpful...

 

Now that it's dry it looks like this...

Quite happy with the front... But the back needs a touch up...

Don't know if I will redo it completely or if there are some rescue measures I can do to improve it... Maybe a light dry brushing or something?
By the way... What do you think of using this model for a Amazon priestess... I think it should be quite easy to hide the ears by painting them like the feathers (are these feathers or is it supposed to be hair?!)... Could be my guardian of the fountain of youth or something...

 

The wet blend turned out quite well. looks awesome! It would definitely be a great amazon priestess.

 

Half way through with my guards... Ok just paintingwise... Still think about rebasing the whole unit when it's completely done...

You might have recognized that I added some purple to those models that I finished earlier... Thought it would be nice to see the unit's colour more often... So I made some parts of their weapons and some of the jewellery purple...
Next one to be finished is the musician...

Tried another piece of wet blending ... Had a short chat with my wife in-between and so ended up with a kind of wet laying instead... then I did another cloak with multiple layers of dry brushing... Based on a basecoat of mephison red followed by a (maybe to heavy) wash of nulin oil... I then dry brushed with mephiston red adding fire dragon bright to every layer... Starting with 0:5 and ending up with about 5:5 or 6:5...

At the moment I like the dry brushed cloak better than the blended one... But I see the potential of the "new technology"...

Edit: What's the dragon slayer doing there? He's supposed to wait until I try painting skin...

 

mad i like the dry brush,, well this is the first time i have heard about wet blending just looked it up to i will have to try and add that to my tool box thanks
