I don’t think much of them myself. True, they are gems from Warhammer Fantasy’s past, but they were ancient even in the 6th-8th Edition Fantasy we know and love as they hailed all the way from 4th Edition and while I imagine they were 100% awesome in their time, they look pretty crude and have unrealistic postures nowadays in comparison with the newer plastic Dragons that were released for High Elves and Dark Elves. Wood Elves could easily use one of those to convert a Forest Dragon, especially now that GW have released those vines - drape some of those over one of the newer Dragon models and it would look right at home with the Tree Kin and Treemen. All in all, I would much rather have had another single faction getting the Warhammer Legends treatment like they did with Dark Elves, rather than releasing rules for a few select named heroes.

The green one was with wood elves so of course is the best of the trio. :D

    Good old Wood Elves!

My Tomb Kings killed quite a few of them last night!

I will probably just stick with the Prophet of Sotek, even though he costs quite a bit. Lot of diorama potential.

    You missed out Thorgrim! ;)

While it would be great to have him, he’s the most expensive model of the lot, and since we don’t order much online anymore, I may well have to go without :(

As our resident master of Dwarfs, I'm surprised to hear that you are passing up on the chance to get him (or that you don't already own him).

He is a magnificent miniature, but at £35, he would take a lot of cash out of my wallet. In any case, I don’t know if I will be going to Games Workshop anytime this week so that I would be able to order him from the order point, as that’s the only way I can order online exclusives now.

Well, since we ditched the family PayPal account after someone else managed to hack onto it and start using it, we prefer to get stuff directly from GW, either in store or from the order point if it is online only.

Thorgrim is a great model though. I’ve been looking at his Fantasy profile again and although his offensive output isn’t the best, he is extremely tanky and boosts the Dwarf army to more aggressive levels of output. He even boosts the roll on the Ancestral Grudge table by 3 so that there is more chance of getting the result where my army hates the enemy army, and if the result is 7 or more the Dwarf army gets to re-roll all misses in every round of combat not just the first.

    That sucks.
A worthy addition to any Dwarf army! Even if just as a collectors piece, but those rules sound pretty good too. He is extremely expensive points-wise though! In a large game he might do very well.

He is a whopping 650 points, but not many Lord-level characters have a 2+ Ward save against attacks with multiple wounds, killing blow or heroic killing blow - Thorgrim is guaranteed to make Empire players cry if they bring cannons.

He is a magnificent model, especially as he’s the Dwarf equivalent of Settra fluffwise. I’ll have to see if I’m going to GW at all this week before I make any further plans (I’m not going back to University until October).

The problem with him is that he is a 650 point model with movement 3.

You make a big deal about low movement values but I only see that as an actual problem when you're playing an objective game (of which I don't play many). All Dwarfs have a movement value of 3 anyway, which is a weakness of the army rather than Thorgrim himself, and in any case they are still only an inch slower than most other armies' infantry when moving and charging and only two inches when marching. It would be more of an issue if Thorgrim didn't have a Ward Save, as he could then be taken down pretty easily by Empire and other Dwarf armies that use cannons (although it would be impossible to one-shot him on the first turn as he has 7 wounds), but he has a 4+ Ward normally which becomes 2+ against attacks with multiple wounds, killing blow or heroic killing blow. Sure, many characters of a similar points level have a steed to swan around on, but according to the cannon rule that hits both a hero and a monster, other characters on monsters will thus find it difficult to engage a Dwarf army anyway. The best Dwarf tactics don't involve running around like headless chickens and more often rely on using ranged weapons to force your enemy into traps fortified with some very defensively powerful infantry, and Thorgrim is very defensively powerful.

The thing that worries me more is Thorgrim's offensive power for his points value - he does wound everything not in magic armour on 2+ and everything in magic armour on 3+ and also boosts the Ancestral Grudge table to make it more likely that all Dwarfs have hatred, but his attacks are only Strength 4 (Strength 5 on the charge thanks to Resolute), which means that he will only be able to inflict a -2 armour save penalty at best, and even that will only last for the first turn. Nevertheless, Thorgrim looks like a great unit for holding up a big horde of chaff and stopping it from engaging Hammerers or Ironbreakers that could be used for stopping stronger units, as he will have his 2+ armour save and 4+ ward to rely upon to keep him alive and a -1 or -2 penalty is all that's really required for killing chaff, so he has his uses. Certainly if you're looking for a more aggressive character, Ungrim is your Dwarf, even when he's not Incarnate of Fire, and is a lot cheaper both moneywise and pointswise than Thorgrim. If GW release him as part of Warhammer Legends, I'm definitely looking to get him (not only would he look great with my Fyreslayers but he would be a lot cheaper, and most likely metal). However, Thorgrim would look great lined up with the rest of my Dwarfs, and would be fun to play with as I don't play competitively.

It all depends on whether I am able to go to a Games Workshop this week to be able to order him. If so, then I may get him while I can, if not, then it's not too much of a big deal as I have a lot of stuff for my Dwarfs anyway, and all is not lost.

I'm very tempted to buy the guy, as I love the model and it's one of the few things i lack in my dawi army.
    But he's too damn pricey… :(

Agreed entirely. If they bring Ungrim back, though, he will certainly be one I will be getting.

Came across some neat stuff from a blog known as the "wee blokes." They got a lot of great stuff, to include fantasy, sci-fi, victorian sci-fi, horror, and more.

I really liked their ring of trees with all the 'good' barbarians running around:

This would make for an epic last-stand scenario!

They got a lot of great terrain, to include an awesome mausoleum setup for frostgrave that looks completely modular:
