The Shrine to Lost Armies

A truly worthy conversion of Dark Eldar Mandrakes!

Well, this ought to be fun. Out of curiosity, what do you guys play, outside of our glorious Reptilian Overlords? I have sizeable Brayherd and Warherd forces (Along with Centigors and Harpies. The basic Beastman lineup before they split us all up), as well as a fairly large Gutbuster Wartribe, so most of my forces outside of my lizards have been left by the wayside. Feels bad man.
you should be having some fun now with the new battletome. i am waiting for a Gutbusters one as well because i have horde armies and i want a more elite one

All this does is make me miss all of the wfb armies I had to sell off back in 2009 when my wife lost her job. At one point I had about 8,000 pts of Dark Elves (cityguard themed) and well over 10,000 pts of - of all things - Dogs of War. I miss my pikes so much that I'm using Perry Bros historical minis to make a new 8th edition army.

It is, and it is not. I had ALL of the official models for the range that came out in 5th edition, including most of the special-order ones. I had a block of 36 Pikemen for Leopold's Leopard Company, for example. But in 6th edition they came out with a "generic" list so I could - and DID - convert LOTS of other minis from other lines into crossbows, duelists, heavy cavalry, and so forth. I converted units from Mordheim figures, Empire soldiers and cavalry, Kislev archers and winged lancers, Bretonnian Errant Knights and Men-At-Arms (foot and horse), all sorts of stuff. I had even managed to scrape up some of the "classic" ones from way back in 2nd edition!

But then came my own End Times and I had to sell it all off. :( Seriously though, 10K points of DOW isn't that impressive. Golgfag's Ogres were almost 500 points for 6 figures and I had a block of 10. Even generic Pikemen were 10 points each. That unit of 36 Leopard Company pikes cost almost 450 points. With all of the "special commanders" in those units, most of the specialty Regiments of Renown were horrifically overcosted on top of that. I almost never used Al-Muktar's Desert Dogs. While they were thematically cool looking, fast cavalry shouldn't be charging in with swords and shields. They tended to die very quickly. Oglah Khan's Hobgoblin Wolf Boyz were surprisingly awesome in combat for the cost though! Yeah, they had a chance to suddenly flip sides and come under your opponent's control, but WS 4 with bows AND spears? On wolves for a 9" base move and an 18" run? Totally worth it!

That sounds like a pretty impressive force. Those are some really rare and hard to find models. I can only imagine what they would go for on Ebay. Dogs of War stuff seems to sell quite well.

Shame you had to get rid of it.

Yeah, I'm kind of kicking myself in the head these days, seeing the kind of prices they're going for. I couldn't afford to replace that army unless I won the lotto, and even then it would be touch-and-go. Honestly, by that point 6th edition had given way to 7th edition, and the rules for the DoW hadn't been updated for years. At the time, it seemed like the best way to cover bills while my wife was unemployed. *shrug*

They're finally here - Hobbitses have returned to Blood Bowl!

And with them comes the return of the almighty...

The indomitable...

The always-hungry...

HOT POT CATAPULT!

I'm sure that this thing was originally usable as an Empire Mortar in Fantasy - all the more hilarious if it nuked a unit of Marauders or Clanrats... :hilarious: (Although now it seems it can only be used in Blood Bowl as a special unit)

I honestly can't stop thinking of this quote right now:

Hot Pot Catapult was literally a soup catapult back in 4th and 5th edition WFB. Eventually it became part of the Dogs of War army after... 6th edition, I think? It was supposed to be filled with really spicy halfling-made soup, capable of melting the faces off of hobgoblin wolf riders and making the wolves run away in terror from the burning sensation. Original rules had the center of the template causing a solid hit (the cauldron) and the literal splash radius (much weaker but disallowing armor saves) being the hot soup. :D

Wow, crazy to see it return!

Still waiting for some Long Drong Slayers though.

OK, this is huge.

Last weekend we organized an event (with the support of the mayor of our city) with an exhibition of miniatures (not only WH, but also x-wing, LOTR, Lego, and many more).

Long story short, a friend of mine presented 2 dioramas he did some years ago, that won (in different years) the 1st place of "armies on parade" for northern Italy.

Here's the first one: the dwarven fortress "Karak Drazh".

Enjoy.
