Your battlereports are golden. The combination of pics / writing analysis really gives the whole picture and feels as I am actually seeing the game.

Thank you so much for your efforts. Looking forward to more 2k ones !!

Really appreciate the feedback. I have a few reports I need to write, but life has been hectic and motivation has been low. I'll try to get one done tonight or tomorrow morning.

7/8 edit: Got the 2nd 1500 pt game against FEC up. I should be able to get another one or two done tomorrow.

We both got a bit burnt out on the lists we'd been building and decided to go for a battle with completely different lists. We rolled for Duality of Death and he out-dropped me as he only had 2 drops. He had me go first. I forgot to get any pictures during this game, so the ones below are from his camera.

T1 Seraphon: So as I knew he'd be running Gristlegore and would out-drop me, I deployed far back, but it ended up being too far back to be within range to get any objectives. I spent 2 CP on the Oldblood's CA and then attempted a LoSaT on him, but rolled a 2. At that point, I just moved units to brace for impact from his TGs and ZD and hoped for the best.

T1 FEC: All 4 of his monsters move up and the Zombie Dragon caps the right objective. Only the GKoTG manages a charge, but it easily decimates the middle unit of Guard. 1-0 FEC
    MVIMG_20190620_141014.jpg.a6ebbf65d5e1edb92d8e4ab19093d0b1.jpg

T2 FEC: Double turn for FEC... The 2x TGs that failed their charges last turn have now smashed into the Knights. Somehow, they only manage to kill half the unit. The GKoTG manages to kill the Starpriest and take 9 off the Scar-Vet Carno. Knights hit back and deal 3 wounds to one TG.

T2 Seraphon: I move up the remaining unit of Guard and the Sunblood and charge them into the GKoTG that's already in combat with the Scar-Vet on Carno. I mistakenly attacked first with Quicksilver, as I forgot the Old-blood had it instead. The GKoTG takes 4 wounds, but it retaliates and kills both the Sunblood and Scar-Vet on Carno. The double TG team take 2 wounds from the remaining Knights and then withers to their retaliation, which also drops the Scar-Vet on Cold One with 1 wound left. The other unit of Guard deal 2 more damage into the GKoTG, but it heals that damage at the end of the turn. 3-0 FeC
    IMG_20190620_142522.jpg.a725f9613dc2f7a7c2e3150d70b2fb5a.jpg

Seraphon T3: My turn for the double! I successfully teleport the Oldblood on Carno behind his TGs. I managed 2 wounds from the Olblood's Sunbolt Gauntlet into the ZD and then charged in. The Oldblood's weapon did some work, but I hit with the arms twice and then the Carno's Jaws absolutely shred the ZD, killing it. I was pretty stoked by this. I knew I'd lose on VP, but it felt great killing a ZD.

T3 FEC: He's only able to charge 1 TG in, after having to re-roll the charge, and brings the Oldblood on Carno down by 5 wounds. The Oldblood, even now bracketed, kills the TG. I was ecstatic. I've never had a model perform this well. I'm still going to lose, but man it feels like a victory. 3-1 FEC
    IMG_20190620_145913.jpg.0b8c2ca158abd87b834cd44764840631.jpg

T4 FEC: He wins priority and it's a short round. The GKoTG and remaining ZD both manage the charge, but the GKoTG makes short work of the Oldblood. 4-1 FEC Major Victory.

    POST BATTLE ANALYSIS

Once again, my deployment screwed me. I didn't place my heros well at all, as I basically negated the synergy I could have had between the Oldblood and Scar-Vet on Carno. Additionally, I placed the Starpriest to far away, so wasn't able to buff the Oldblood either. Some of that is irrelevant, as I failed the LoSaT roll, but I need to improve on my deployment skills in general. I seem to have a difficult time knowing how and where to deploy my forces to hopefully not get destroyed by that T1 charge. Granted, with this list it wasn't easy anyway, but I definitely feel still very novice when it comes to deployment. Any feedback would certainly welcome.

I'm glad you enjoy your killing-machine Carno! :D

were you still playing with the GHB2018? why?

Deployment is Tricky, no matter how much experience do you have, it's always easy to make mistakes.

You should try Drachotion's Tail (a thing i'm gonna do asap): it's the battalion that gives us the greater freedom in placement, letting you avoid this kind of situations.

@Killer Angel The report is way overdue. GHB2019 hadn't been released yet.

Yes, deployment is tricky. I could probably use some pointers or ideas to consider when setting up.

My 2K list does include DT, but I didn't consider it for this match-ups.

Very good report, I’m glad to see that your carnosaur SHREDDED the TG and ZD. That alone should have felt like a win right there. As for deployment, looking over the battlefield it is easy to see why you did not deploy optimally, and really is not something to feel to bad about. As always excellent report and hope to see the next one.

    Tough match.
Sadly the game was basically over when the FEC got the double turn in round two.
I think you pretty much achieved the maximum you could do after that.
    Good job killing the ZD!

I thought there was 1 Zombie Dragon and 3 Terrorgheists? Given that you killed the Zombie Dragon and 1 Terrorgheist, there would have been 2 Terrorgheists left.

Why was it that you only scored 1 Victory Point when you killed 2 of his monsters? Sounds like an average victory for him rather than a major victory as you killed half his army :D

Anyway, great to see that a non-Slann list can actually do something against the meta (even though the list still lost, killing 2 out of his 4 monsters was not an easy feat).

I have a hard time telling the difference between the ZD and TG. Suffice to say the Oldblood killed one each.

I only got 1 VP cause I only held an objective 1 turn :( Sad, but true.

It was a fun list to play and I might do it again, though I'd really want to see what happens with our tome revision.

imho it's weird as hell we're seeing as little support as we do. It's one of the biggest armies model-wise, it's the only army to really survive the end times (both canonically and just in the sense of not having 90% of their models cut) it's fairly Original (how many other aztec dinosaur riding dinosaur factions do you know?). It's kinda astonishing we're not seeing more support as you'd think it'd be an army that sells quite well with all these advantages.

Battleplan roll was in GHB 2019 and came up Battle for the Pass. He finished deployment first and had me go first. I rolled Sage's Staff for my constellation. Stealthy Advance saw one unit of Skinks move forward towards the top center objective.

T1 Seraphon: I was able to cast Cogs and Balewind uncontested. I used a CP for the Slann's CA so that unit of 10x Knights would be able to move forward over terrain. The advanced Skinks ran to ensure capture of the top objective and the Knights and Scar-Vet on Cold One moved up behind as support. I spread out the other unit of 20x Skinks to shield my Heroes and summoned in another unit of 10 Skinks to block up the hole left by advancing. 3-0 Seraphon
    IMG_20190703_124511.jpg

T1 FEC: He's able top cast the Chalice, but nothing else. All four monsters move up and he summons 3 Crypt Horrors near the bottom objective to capture it and 20 Ghouls near his Archregeant. The ZD crashes into the Skinks on the top objective and takes them down to 7 with shooting + Feeding Frenzy. I Wary Fighter them out of combat and battle shock removes 4 more, but as it's 3 models to his one in range of the objective, I maintain control of it. 3-3 Tie
    IMG_20190703_125849.jpg

T2 Seraphon: I buff the Knights with Summon Starlight, Serpent Staff, and Savage Charge. The Knights charge into the ZD and the Scar-Vet on CO charges a TG. The Knights only manage 2 wounds and Gwendar's retaliation from the TG one shots the Scar-Vet. Fortunately, Summon Starlight keeps the ZD from murdering the Knights, but with Feeding Frenzy it does kill two. 6-3 Seraphon
    IMG_20190703_132107.jpg

    T2 FEC:
He buffs the GKoTG with Ferocious Hunger (gets +3 attacks) and Mystic Shield. It charges the 8 remaining Knights and deletes them. The ZD finishes off the 3 remaining Skinks and he know controls both middle objectives. The other two TGs move towards my home objective, but only one makes it into the other unit of 20 Skinks and leaves only two remaining. I'm able to Wary Fighter those two away and get them into Inspiring Presence range, allowing them to keep control of the objective. 6-8 FEC
    IMG_20190703_133625.jpg

T3 Seraphon: I teleport the Slann to the bottom right of his objective. Summon Starlight and Serpent Staff now go on the Razordons. I move the earlier summoned Skinks to screen the Astrolith Bearer and Starpriest. The Razordons moved up to shoot a TG within 6". I summon 3 Razordons and EoTG. I also bring down the Rippers onto his 3 Crypt Horrors. IIRC, the Razordons manage 6 wounds into one TG. The other 3 Razords roll terribly and only manage to kill 3 Ghouls. The Rippers at least did some work and murdered the Horrors. 9-8 Seraphon
    IMG_20190703_140054.jpg

T3 FEC: The two TGs near my objective move forward, the GKoTG moves towards the Rippers, and the ZD moves toward the Slann and summoned units. He makes the charges with all the TGs and wipes away the Skinks, Razordons, and Rippers. I have nothing to retaliate with and know I won't be able to turn the tide as all four of his monsters are still on the board and my remaining army won't stand up to them. 9-17 FEC
    IMG_20190703_141735.jpg

    POST BATTLE ANALYSIS

I made a critical error by not bringing down the Rippers in T2 to delete his ghouls. This would have easily threatened or captured his home objective, forcing at least one TG to come back and deal with them and giving me 4 VP. I could likely have then teleported to the bottom objective and thrown somthing into his Horrors and possibly taken that as well. It would have given me the VP lead and I might have had a win at that point. I don't think I made any additional mistakes in this game, but I can't really afford any when playing against Gwendar.

Don’t feel to bad about this. For fighting off 4 terrorgheists, that was a job well done.
I do wonder though if there really is any real counter to FEC, and if there is what is it.

Bring all the skinks and play the objective.. it's not pretty, it's not very interesting & you're not going to kill anything, but he's not going to chew through 500 skinks so the objectives should be yours for the most part.

As for actually fighting their army, maybe using a tzeentch daemon army? It has a decent amount of ranged firepower so you can use your lesser horrors to block his scary stuff and then douse it in warpflame with your heavy hitters.

Skaven as well with their copious amounts of ranged firepower. Especially units of stormfiends should do decently.

Though in all cases it requires you to actually play decently. Screw up once and a terrorgheist will eat half your army.

There is an issue I see with skinks though, now that they are 70 points, while not a heavy nerf I do worry about the reduction of the total amount of skinks. 10 points is not much but when we are talking about huge numbers of skinks that does mean a lot.

Atleast summoning was unchanged so we can still summon spam skinks

Bringing the old Skink spam could actually still work against some armies.
