Odd that an ability named "Instinctive Defence" can be used when aggressively attacking.
Intended? I'm fine with it if it is. It's just that a lot of RAW was argued about here before though. Including the Razordon ability. Was it really intended? Hence why it's odd that it too was exempted as an FAQ, when I know several people asked that question.

Considering they addressed the FoS command ability that also had some charge phase weirdness going on, yeah, you'd have to imagine it's intended.

We'll obviously see if it's changed at a later date, but if it's not addressed in the FAQ and the wording is clear, seems we have all the pieces to the puzzle we need.

Trying to decipher what games workshop is intending to do wit their rulewriting is like trying to understand the Astronomicon (wrong IP, I know) - it will just melt your mortal brain.

Stupid question: what is the proper faq/errata email? I want to send one, at least for realmshaper. It’s just not fair.

It is a bit too late to send questions. They usually never make a secondary FAQ. It happened with Tzeentch because so many people argued the modified 1 on a Pink Horror banner and the FAQ only made it more ambigious.

the only thing that really hurts is that scaly skin doesnt apply to mortal wounds.
scaly skin is the on trait that helps us to hold on in close combat

Not sure if it would have helped one way or another, I think they had their kind made up their minds, and wouldn’t consider a change based on gripes. For future (GH2020, round of FAQ updates), they may perhaps base it on sales projections and overarching meta. If they see sales crater they may reconsider their position. I for one hope no one buys it, if I could return it I would.

Honestly I would urge people to calm a bit down.

Yes I totally jumped the gun too and thought the Realmshaper Engine would be completely worthless etc., but after having talked a bit about it and slept on it, I can certainly see possibilities with it.

Is it what I had hoped for in faction terrain? Not really.
Is it worthless and wont ever see competitive play? No.
Will it have a noticable impact on the game? Maybe, maybe not. But most of the terrain isn't super game changing.

There will be multiple ways to use it on the table depending on what kind of army you will be running.

Personally I plan to use it for the sheer fact that it's free to field and it will be nice to have some Seraphon terrain around for each game. It's not like it's particularly dangerous to field it. I mean if the opponent ignores it you might end up in a situation where you can hop in it and get some use out of it. Also if the opponent decides to get paranoid about it and bum rush the terrain piece expecting you to do the same then you can just ignore it and play the objective while they move themselves out of position. At the end of the day we are the only ones that get a real benefit out of the thing. If they garrison it we can just have Kroak Deliver some Pizza to it if something particularly troublesome is inside it.

The thing probably isn't worth the IRL price tag but I like it just to have it around as an option. I feel like people were expecting too much out of the terrain piece and got themselves hyped up to use it as a centerpiece to the army. I will admit that I had some fun thinking of cool ways to use it and an Oracle to have a bunkered down Slann delivering death from the safety of the engine. With some guard stationed inside making it dangerous to approach. However at the end of the day it's a cool terrain piece that's free to field so I'm not too broken up about not being able to abuse it.

I think if you are bringing it, you have to plan for both scenarios, you getting your side or your opponent. The two potential benefits offered to the opponent:

    1) A garrisoning advantage to put support heroes in and have troops nearby for a -2 to hit and +1 save
    2) A LoS advantage to hide stuff from us

For coalesced, it’s a bigger problem. For Starborne, you can use LoSaT to pretty good advantage (ultra buffed salamander unit, plus Kroak+arcane vassal+balewind+AL to extend your deliverances appropriately far upwind

You're forgetting about giving the enemy a free garrison for ranged units.

IMO people are exaggerating how big of an impact it will have on the game, if the enemy garrisons it. I can understand getting sad if you read the rules for the terrain piece and expected to use the D3 MW terrain zapping feature from turn 1 every game, but I honestly think it would be a bit too good if we got it every game for granted and could tailor a list around it. The D3 alone might not be crazy, but when you couple it with Comet's Call and potentially other Endless Spells/normal spells it starts to stack up fast. Alot of enemies would have their terrain denied since support heroes are likely dead turn 2.

The opponent dumping some support heroes or whatever inside can very quickly turn into a trap for them. Not only is said model(s) suddenly MUCH harder to screen since the Engine has a huge footprint, it also makes it very easy to dump MW at it with spells etc. Cover and -1 to be hit is great, but it doesn't make the model(s) immortal by any stretch.

Heavy Saurus lists might not have the resources to turn it into a trap, in which case you might want to think differently about the terrain piece. It can work as a piece that blocks LOS near the middle/objectives for your Saurus heroes etc. while they buff units around them - They dont need LOS to activate their command abilities. You could have a Carno sit out of harms way behind it, then give it fly and 3D6 charge etc. to suddenly pick a desired fight.

There are honestly loads of ways to use it. Straight up saying it's worthless is just not right.

I don't know about Saurus lists not having what it takes to turn it into a trap. A massive horde of 40 saurus around that massive foot print is an almost guaranteed wipe on anything inside the engine. Honestly unless you have Kroak/Slann that can pass off wounds and mitigate them through other means while using the realmshaper to harm anything closing in. It's kind of just a lunch box for anything that manages to get close enough to pour damage into it.

I just meant Im not sure how you will get there in turn 1/2 as Saurus to punish whatever they have garrisoned the Engine with.

But yes, even cover and -1 to be hit is insignificant if you suddenly can wrap 40 Saurus around the whole footprint and start bashing.

Couldnt the trap argument just as easily be applied as a trap for us? I think the gripe is that it's the first terrain piece that has legit benefits for the enemy.
