Almost done with Kroak, I think I'll be able to matte him down and get the metallics done tomorrow. I ordered two inks that'll arrive Thursday to finish up the marble effect on his death mask and he'll be done!

Kroak done! Got a bit sidetracked, my buddy asked to play a game but didn't want to face my FoS list (understandably) so I spent a night building 25 drakespawn cold ones and an extra Carnosaur to run a Koatls Claw list.

Starting on my Saurus Guard and Astrolith Bearer conversions now!
 
Wow, this is good stuff. I very much like the light touches on the heads and the combination of the blues and purples.

Guard done! Goal for April was kroak, 5 guard and the astrolith bearer, unfortunately didn't get him done but got started at least. So goal for May is finish the AB, get my steg chief painted, and base these last few projects then my 2k of starborne is done!!!

Thank you! I've been incorporating this effect to some degree across my whole starborne army. I'm a bit stumped on how I'm going to do it on my steg but I'll be finishing my astrolith bearer first anyway, hopefully I'll come up with something by then

Thank you! I've been trying to practice getting better at volumetric highlighting and just focusing on the face/upper area to invest time while also trying to paint quickly to get the army done. Gonna put it to the test when I start my Koatl's Claw army over the next few months or so. Gotta watch Marco Frisoni's recent video on the new warband a few dozen more times first, it's crazy what he got done in such a short time!

Thank you! I know you love a good kitbash! At some point I came across a Tyler Mengel article where he used necron bits combined with lizardmen to make starborne and I thought it looked awesome so I copied it and used some for the astrolith as well. Other than the necron stuff everything came from spare bits from my eventual Troglodon. O and the "energy bolts" inside the astrolith are cut up paper clips, turned out OK. I think they'll be decent when painted blue/white similar to the energy in the halberds of the guard

Got some painting done last night/this morning on the AB, found a lizard called a "blue alligator lizard" that I liked for the color scheme on this guy. Getting in more practice with stippled lizard skin texturing on the underbelly and tail. His scales will get the galaxy stars treatment like my guard. Hoping to finish him Thursday/Friday then move onto the steg!
