Blog Fitzloq's Painting Log - New Year, New Army 2022

Hi all, I've been spending the last week assembling more Skinks - man what a frustrating kit! After finally having some decent weather (i.e. not raining) I was able to get them primed including the handlers for the salamander. Insert usual grumbles about finecast here.

I then managed to make good progress on the first batch tonight, should easily finish them over the next few evenings. I'll do the Skirmishers next and then prime and paint a good 25-30 shields for the lot.

If anyone's curious, I found the models for the standard bearer and musician online. I'll try and track down the actual files but they were free and a good match for GWs Skinks in my opinion considering the lack of command models from the official kit.

Very nice work going on here.
That standard bearer looks great. I don't seem to see the musician in this batch, am I right?

Keep up the great work

Thanks folks! Very kind.

Progress update: Last night I was able to get all the scales done so for the most part all these guys have left to do are the crests, the eyes, the weapons and any bits of gold on the arms and ankles etc. Then it's time for another batch of 10, this time skirmishers with javelins.

Aside from the shields and bases that's the Skink Cohort finished as well as the three handlers. I'm hoping to be able to finish everything with plenty of time to spare before the end of February so I can focus on the bases.

Next up will most likely be the two Kroxigor to sit in the middle. I don't really like the GW ones so have gone for some 3D printed alternatives from One Page Rules. It's kinda hard to make out details on the translucent resin in the photo, I'll post again when they're primed and I've started work on them. They're shorted than GW Krox but look more like the Total War design which I appreciate.

They looks so good together! Makes me want to start on my Skinks (though they won't fit so neatly together due to round bases ;) )
:artist::artist:

So interested to see what you do with the Kroxigors :woot:

Absolutely agree with Imrahil. I wish I could paint to that quality at that speed. Loving it all.

Awesome.

So you play 8th? Join us over here.

The unit looks great! Looking forward to those kroxigors too, they rank up nicely!

Holy smokes! Those skinks make a very impressive looking cohort. Lovely paint jobs. It's nice to see what Contrast with a little traditional painting over top can produce.

Hi folks, it's been a while since my last update. Had an unfortunate combination of sickness and poor mental health. Thankfully I'm much better now and the latter is on the up and up, helped largely by the new member of the family. Meet Cyrill the Welsh Pembroke Corgi.

With the pet tax out of the way, here's what I've been working on.

Firstly, I finished the Skink Skirmishers with Javelins, I just need to do like 30 shields for all my Skinks together as I left those off for ease of painting.

Next up I've started the Salamander. I've opted for a yellow here as I want to paint my Chameleon Skinks orange so thought this would provide some nice variation and a color that won't be seen too much in the army aside from in feathers.

I've also finished the first of the Kroxigor (which I am calling Proxygor) and I really like how this guy turned out. I've gone for a darker skin tone whilst keeping the same scale color to link them to the Skinks but also make them seem a bit thicker in hide. At least that's the intent!

Hopefully I'll have some more frequent updates moving forward. I have the second Proxygor on the go at the moment which will complete my mixed Skink Cohort for now. :)

The models are great, but your paint job is top class. Really amazing work there.
