Ok I think I am going to work on another Wight King because I also want a mounted one.
Problem is: the mounted Wight King by GW looks ugly, I hate it.
So I am looking for alternatives.

So probably I could get one (preferably carrying a banner but I could easily kitbash that I guess) that is already dead, or I could get a normal heavily armored Knight, replace the head with a skull, and work from there.
Problem is the horse. I don't want to buy a whole box of Black Knights (Hexwraiths) and then use one horse and have four that I can't use for anything. And if course nobody is selling single horses on eBay.

Do you know of any other model of a skeleton horse that looks decent?
The only one I could find until now is this one, but it is metal:

    Edit: same for this one:

Found a few on this link:

    This one from gamezone
    caballero-lugubre-i.jpg

Its pretty built up, not very skeletal, probably better for a vampire mount.

    Also these from ironwinds:

    9909fd01.jpg

Look very zombie-ish. It looks like you can buy them individually, but the paint job would rally have to sell them.

Kensei Undead also have a really epic samurai warlord on a steed:

    Ok short update:
I finally got some bases for my second set of GW Skellies, and I finished the Infernal Standard for my Wight King (thanks to @Mesandres who provided me with the banner, which is from Ardboyz I think).
I replaced the pole by a smaller one though, it just looked far too big.
The banner itself is also a bit too big but it looks so epic this way. :)

I also worked on some terrain pieces. Pics soon.

I am working on 20 more right now, plus a little extra that I am kitbashing.
I had to take a break from the Zombie Dragon. SO much more detail work than I thought, it went on my nerves a bit.

    Short update:

I am working on several things right now:
    - work on Zombie Dragon resumed, 80% finished
    - worked on the pond but screwed up badly and got depressed. Trying to salvage it, not sure if it will work
    - finished my next 20 Skeletons. So I have 60 finished Skellies now (minus bases).
    - Kitbashing me some Skellies out of spare parts. Not ready for pictures right now but IMO they look damn funny!
    - working on another terrain piece, a small one. Progress to show this week I hope.
    - working on another terrain piece, a big one. Slow progress. Maybe in two weeks or so I will have enough work done to show some pics of it.
    - started painting my Saurus Guards

So there is a lot going on right now and since I have a bit of hobby ADHD I progress on all fronts, but slowly. I have to refocus and finish some...

Zombie Dragon is now shaded (no pics yet since I am not at home right now) and waiting for a bit of drybrushing and some last details.
    More to come soon.

    Short snow test.
I had some interesting results eating different materials for creating snow.
    More to come soon.

Oh wow LOL. I just read your post and thought: "WTF does he mean???" and then I noticed that my autocorrect indeed corrected "testing" into "eating"... :hungry: :wtf: :vomit: :D :hilarious:

That would indeed create "interesting" results . ROFL

Ok here we go. As promised here are some of my finished undead, starting with the three heroes I already posted, now with finished bases.

    20170923_223043.jpg

The snow was done using a product by the model train terrain company "Noch".
I tried several other materials but that one is one of the cheapest and the best looking one. I got 200g for 4€.
You can use it in different ways, depending on whether you need structure and how thick the snow should be.
For thin snow you just paint a bit of PVA onto the surface and spread the snow over it, then just blow the excess snow away.
If you need it thick then mix PVA with water 50/50 and then mix snow with it until it has a consistency like tooth paste.
You can use that like GW's Valhallan Blizzard except that you put some of the dry snow over it when you are finished to make it look more powdery. You can omit that last step if you just want do do some slush instead of new snow.

I still managed to screw up some of the snow parts, don't know why. Those look a tiny bit yellowish. But most of them look great IMO.

Beautifully painted, and the red looks great on the snow bases!

    Thanks!
My reasoning behind choosing snow bases was that those have a great contrast to all the different colors I want to use for the various Death models. The Skellies are basically bone+red/green+black, while the Nighthaunt stuff will have some green and blue but also many dark parts. White contrasts that well.

...and it is pretty quickly done. The snow for a skeleton's base takes less than a minute. The sand below it isn't even painted. If I did all of those with grass and paintes dirt and all that like for my Seraphon they would take ages. :D

Here's another thing I did in between my model projects. It is a small terrain piece, an impact crater.
I can place a rock in the middle and use it as the impact spot for the "gift from the heavens" Battle Plan or so. Otherwise it is just an interesting looking hill.
I built it out of leftover Styrodur, put some toilet paper over it, drenched that in PVA and let it dry. Then I sanded it and did the same I did with my other terrain.
I made the bottom if the crater glossy so it looks like there is some water in it.
I also tried out some other grass flock, a short brown one. It makes good lichen I think.
