I can't speak for tournaments as I have never participated in one (thus my general context in non-tournament play), but I doubt that would fly. However, for those who don't play in tournaments, there are scenarios in the back that allow for monsters to be added to any game. That having been said, this is a Warhammer Forge book, not a Games Workshop book, as well as a supplement/expansion, so using the rules would be the exception, not the rule.

Hmm, it says Scroll of Binding Compendium, so maybe it's just that: all the previously released, digital Scrolls of Binding in one. Lame, I know, but I don't think it's too far fetched.

But that Vanguard Clash... It looks like it has a Temple Guard on it. Any wild guesses about it's contents?

I fear its just a scenario..

I most def do not expect a cool Lizardmen supplement.

Looks like most of the scroll are anly available to a couple armies so far.

The bit about allied armies has always been in the 8th edition book.

I doubt it is a LM supp, I agree it is most likely just a scenario. All of the Battle Scrolls so far have been for the boxed sets listed in the GW Gift Guide. Since I doubt they will release any more box sets before Christmas, scenario is most likely IMHO.

just to be clear: all formation can be taken by all Armies.

this is taken directly from one of the scrolls (I will not pass on anything else than the general rules of usage)

    "ALLIED FORMATIONS

Formations do not have to be chosen from the same army book as the rest of your army. If you decide to do this, then formations made up of units from different army books follow the rules for Allied Armies on pages 136-139 of the Warhammer rulebook."

this is taken directly from my "Crypt Scavengers" ebook.

People are misunderstanding the alliance rules for "take what you want".

If you take 1500 lizardmen and 500 Wood elves what you are really playing according to these rules is two different armies. One of 1500 and one of 500, with two different Cores and pts allowances....

if your opponent is playing 2000pts one race...according to the rules this is a 2vs1 game, and unless your opponent hasn't agreed to this,
    you are cheating.
If you are using other armies stuff without filling in at least 25% of that in that armies core
    you are cheating

Formations on the other hand is perfectly legal and count as part of your 1player army vs another 1players army.

there is a huge different, especially since the formations have "extra" rules to them.
I wont tell what as that is part of the product, but I can tell that you arent just paying for the units alone: they bring a twist.
For example does the "Restless dead" have a usage and rules for the deployment of a "Garden of Morr" piece that affects the game with much more than just being terrain.

If it's as pictured, it will be interesting to see what kind of special rules would make a Troglodon useful with a bunch of units that don't have Predatory Fighter.

    Ugh.. This is so sad..

At least there's Vanguard Clash tomorrow. We'll see what it brings.

One thing though - I just realized the Scroll of Binding says "compendium". I have no clue about SoM, but I'm getting more confident that it's something similar just for regular warhammer..

I wouldn't be surprised at all if the scroll of binding compendium is merely a list of the new monsters that have been released since Storm of Magic was released. There have been a fair few, such as the Troglodon, Bastilodon, Ripperdactyl, Flamespyre Phoenix, Frostheart Phoenix, the Abyssal Terror (new DE monster) and all of the other new monsters form recent releases. In fact, the simple addition of the Frostheart Phoenix would make me happy. Saurus Warriors getting torn to pieces? Bring in the Ice Budgie and watch the tide of battle turn!

Makes more sense than if it was for the amaxon patrol box, as its probably a scenario or something.

    yup...

unless scrolls of binding gives me access to a ice phoenix or some other flyer, I have no interest in the rest of decembers releases...and I count on being disappointed there too.

WTF? The Vanguard Clash is in fact a scenario. Why is there LM on the cover when the story/fluff included don't even mention them? It is a scenario for 500-750 points that may be able to link larger battles together. Some special rules included for units. I was hoping to at least read some LM fluff.
