Blog Cageyblood's big ol paint blog - Chaos Knights

Finished off my carnosaur as I'd hoped to do, and threw up the pictures in the gallery.
Looking good, I still think you can push the highlights a bit more.
While is is certainly true, I think I'm happy to call this model done for now. The dinosaur itself shows a lot of inexperience so I'll just try to move on to something else and push the highlights even more on whatever I do next. I appreciate the criticism as always. :)

That is the best approach, call it finished and move on, you can always go back later. ;)

That is a vast improvement, the highlights are great.

He is a bit lacking in contrast but I guess his weapon and shield will add that if not think about going red or green with his belt.

I agree. I originally went with death world green as a base color for the leather on the knight himself, but decided that particular shade wasn't right and went back to a neutral brown. I did specifically pick a very reddish brown on the horse's leather bits for the reason you say. This is a new color scheme so definitely need to think about what I'll change for the next 4 once I see it fully assembled.

Finished the first of the batch of 5 chaos knights I'm doing. Haven't done much wet blending in the past and I tried to do some on the weapon to give a splash of color as crowsfoot suggested, to kind of mixed results. Still, 6/10 isn't bad for a first real attempt.

Pretty happy with the results on this guy, and very excited to do the rest which I think will turn out even better. Going to try to make the banner look like stitched together human skins with some freehand stuff, which I think will a) take forever b) look really cool.

Thank you for the kind words!
Those corrupted land bases are actually super easy to do, I just followed a tutorial for lava themed base and did a gradient of colours going from dark purple to white instead of dark red to yellow. The rock is just thin sheets of cork painted black and dry brushed with a light purple. I’m glad you like them!

Got my battleforce / stegadon / slann in the mail today, I'm like a kid on christmas!
I also got shadespire and I elected to take the day off of painting and assemble some stuff instead. Put together all the shadespire minis and I think they're going to jump right to the front of the line for future things to paint.
Gonna share a few W.I.P. shots from the current projects.
1) Banner for my chaos knights. Flayed skin banner done freehand.

2) I decided to use some of the chaos and seraphon bits to start kitbashing some stuff. I grabbed some "easy to build" stormcast models to act as a base.

I am going to be turning them into 3 different chaos heroes. Got the first one assembled today, mostly using a nurgle plague lord I wasn't ever going to use and a few random parts. Considering I've never done greenstuff sculpting or kitbashing before today, I think it went pretty good!

At least one of the other two yet to be built is going to use a Scar-Vet head to be the first toe into that "chaotic seraphon" concept I had a few months back.

This was a bit of a tough week IRL for me, but I still managed to get another Knight done. This one's weapon turned out a bit better and I found a shade of green that I think works well as a secondary color for bits of cloth or robes. 3 to go!

Super quick and dirty shot of a shield on a wip knight. Took a stab in the dark and the experiment turned out pretty cool I think! Reminds me of the old goosebumps books :D

He looks great. The Basing is lovely.Fantastic job on the horse's muzzle. Going a little brighter on the highlighting for the green effect inside the shield's eyes and mouth would make it look more glowy. It would also add to the affect if you did some small line highting in the base green tone around the metal bits of the sheild were the light from the eye/mouth light would illuminate.
