    Have you tried them?

Every other brush I have used does not compare to them, I have only used GW and a few others.

Art stores literally sell thousands of kinds of quality brushes ...
Personally I typically use my cheep brushes for most of the painting
and only take out my nice pointy sables for my final details.

To be fair, there are some insanely good painters out there on youtube who hate the windsor brushes, but it's all really preference. Some people get a better feel and flow with the synthetic brushes, others prefer low quality throw-aways, and obviously a good few prefer the fancy ones. I actually bought a series 7 #1, but I haven't cracked it open yet. My girlfriend got me a set of sable sapphires she saw and they've been working pretty well so far (no idea what % sable/synth they are).

I can speak for the GW brushes and they are... well, to put it nicely, not worth the prices, not by a long shot.

I've tried them and they are very disappointing, I bought a couple and they only lasted a few weeks before the point was flared.

I just like the control N&W have but I would try other makes if anyone has a favorite?

I'm the other way base with a cheap brush then do everything with my nice brushes maybe I should hold them back for finer work.

Conversion entry submitted :D - I don't think 6 pictures was enough but just my opinion for my personal model - the original 3 would have killed it :p

So psyched over this. Was looking through the conversion thread and then was thinking of this painting one and now I am super sad I didn't have the time I wanted to do either. Kudos to those that keep the rest of us inspired, so excited to see the work.

I have a question, Sorry if it's been answered before but I'm a bit behind on this thread, and 25 pages is a lot to read!

Do models entered into the open painting competition have to be gaming/tabletop models? I have something that I would love to enter but I'm not sure if it would be in the spirit (or the rules) of the competition.

this is an interesting question - I can see why there might be a restricition on it depeding on the size and use of the model - do you mean like a display model like that isn't playable or a model figurine or something? like action man sized for a bad example

I suppose it's a display model. In theory, it's small enough to glue on a base and play with it. I think that would be pushing it though as about 6" tall.

Sounds reasonably sized to me - I'd a low it as the category is painting so it will be judged on skills used and techniques and personal tastes so I don't think the playability would be an issue

Is the model part of a gaming system if yes it can be entered if no I think it can still be entered.

-The Open Category – Painting and Converting: May be any model from any gaming system except Lizardmen / Seraphon / Saurian Ancients / Salamanders which must be entered in the Lizardmen / Seraphon / Saurian Ancients / Salamanders category.

In the open painting competition you can enter with a display model as well. There is so many systems out there, that it would be impossible for us to review if a model belong to one, so it is easier to allow all. I am sorry if the rules was confusing on this part.

After reviewing the voting and the comments in the thread started earlier, we have decided to not extend the contest with a month.

We will instead extend the deadline with three days to August 3rd (PDT (Pacific Standard Time) allowing anyone that need a little more time to submit their entry. Please note that this is a hard cut off, any entry after this time will not be allowed to enter the contest.
